The debate about HS2 has nothing to do with the many other improvements taking place on the railways nationwide, even in the North of England.

New locomotives, units, stations, improvements to existing stations, track replacement, new modern signalling, new routes, lines closed by Beeching being re-opened where possible etc.

It never ceases to amaze me how those who do the most commentating and moaning about the railways are more than likely the people who never travel on them, because if they did, they would see what I have described.

And what I have said will continue, even with the reduced HS2 if Labour get into power in order to bring what was a out of date railway system up to the level of many other countries.
