General   (General discussion, talk about anything.)

I'm all for providing better facilities for cyclists. Germany, Sweden, etc tend to have it to perfection. Our attempt is very fragmented (not Wigan alone but the general UK) and doesn't have any real positive effect overall. In our age where we endeavour to reduce our carbon footprint, these useless bits of fragmented cycle lanes, plus the one-ways, no entries, etc add to the congested traffic or huge detours... adding to pollution - it makes no sense.
Anyway, just a scenario for you - I was driving up King Street and cyclists/scooters were driving the wrong way. I friendly indicated that it was a one way system and one guy raised 2 fingers to me. I didn't react as I am a responsible driver. Just waited for a safe passage. One reaching the top of King Street drivers there is a crossing then drivers are directed to turn right (apart from taxis and buses). I paused to let pedestrians over the crossing then slowly (luckily) proceeded. A taxi coming up Wallgate and looking at his phone failed to observe the give way and I had to slam onto the brakes... then as I proceeded, a guy on a bike flying along in the wrong direction on a one way street (again looking at his phone) caused me to slam on again - bloody idiots who have no concept of the rules of the road. If they behave like that on cycles and scooters, how will they behave when they get a car licence!!!
