General (General discussion, talk about anything.)
Ailsa Craig, now considered a heritage variety.
Considered best flavour by a fair consensus of growers.
Is not a hybrid, so you can collect and use seed in subsequent years in perpetuity. (So seed companies don't like this, though you can get from most of the large distributors.)
Also plants usually available from good nurseries over next six weeks or so.
Commercial growers don't like it: all the trusses don't ripen at once. Though that is to the advantage of the kitchen gardener.
Usually good to grow outside in UK. Does not do well though should we get a wet summer. Not very blight resistant. Ditto, blossom end rot.
Also consider the now very many varieties of cherry tomatoes grown as tumblers rather than cordons. Good allrounders, and usually good outdoors.
