The last time prior to the ending of the loss making nationalisation, the railways were in private company hands was prior to 1948.

Thatcher did some bad things when she was in power, but the modernisation of our railways has been with private investment, most of which has been from abroad.

If the railways had continue to remain under Labours obsession of railway nationalisation, there would have been bigger losses and a system going further behind that of other countries.
