Unfortunately since 1974 Philistinism has played a major role in shaping Wigan’s future. The local government reorganisation ushered in increased executive powers, at enhanced remuneration levels, and a reduction in councillor influence.
Looking back at the changes that have taken place over the last 47 years it is difficult to accept that, in general, they have been to the benefit of the residents of Wigan.
