Tonker,
'The UK is not a country'... agreed.
Christian country... yes, sort of.
I only say this because (please tell me if I'm wrong) I belive at the last census Christian for the first time wasn't indicated as the major religion.
Even so Tonker, I do feel that many people of a Christian background have either indicated non-religious, other, or even Klingon., instead of being honest.
However, I do feel we should be allowed to keep our traditions.
The thing that worries me is influence from America. Nobody collects for the Guy anymore but we now have trick or treat. Then there are baby showers and all manner of Americanisms. We have lost the May Queen and many more traditions.
To end with a bit of humour... My mate who is from Lincolnshire complained that an old tradition in his village (smoking the fool) was banned due to pedantic H&S legislation. It involved choosing the village's biggest idiot, putting him on a rope swing and constantly swinging him through the smoke of a large dampened fire. You can make your own mind up about that!
