I think the Hingemakers was the pub where the landlord bought half price pies at closing time from a shop in Ashton and put them on the bar, free of charge, for men calling in for a pint after work. Alas the council do gooders stepped in and stopped the practice because he hadn’t got the required hygiene certificates etc.
