There used to be a stall on Ashton market which sold paperbacks, and would buy them back from you when you had read them. (obviously for less money)

Which is how we consumed our James Bond before the films got made.

I got caught by school inspector, reading a Bond paperback concealed inside the schoolbook which I was meant to be reading! He was very good about it though: told me if that was what interested me I should try Len Deighton and John le Carré. Good advice it was.
