Good news! It would be a great loss to see this, "The Cherry Gardens", to go the way so many of our pubs have gone. It is on a prime piece of building land and building firms would be "laughing all the way to the bank" if they had the chance to buy it and demolish it to build as many houses on the land as they could; even more so if they could get that piece of land at the side of the The Cherry Gardens.
Protected buildings in towns like ours do not have much meaning, because we have already experienced the results of certain parties. Remember what happened to the old town hall (the old Police Station) and the old Market Hall, what has become of: The Griffin, The Grand Hotel, Brentwood...
