Firstly, to relate to WN1 Standisher post, a close and dear friend of mine regularly calls in to those pubs (when they are open) and a few other pubs: calls in one or two pubs in Standish, down to the Boar's Head, down to The Cherry Gardens (when open), down to The Brocket, then...
When I have time and the weather is fine, we go together. But, I have to admit, we don't go in to Forbes; probably, because we have never thought of it as a pub. I know the building as I have walked past it hundreds of times.
The Boar's Head is a really nice pub, because it is an extremely old pub and certainly has that old pub feeling to it. But, don't expect The Brocket prices. The Brocket is mainly popular because of its prices, which are excellent for the pocket: nice place with nice prices!
Now on to The Cherry Gardens: I stated years ago that The Cherry Gardens needed to lower its prices or it was going to face problems regarding clientelle. In these times and with increasing prices, when a pub is close to another pub there is competition and the difference in the price of a drink can be greatly important.
Hopefully, the new management understands the current situation and the fact that running a nice pub in a nice position does not always entice people to drink there.
