Thanks for pointing out that a google map page does not work as an image in the posting method used on here.

When first I arrived at NMGH, it still had the cell into which a person was locked, and had to break up a specified quantity of stone, which they fed out through a grill, before they were released.

It was a former Workhouse, and the cell was part of the 'Casual Ward' for itinerants as described by Orwell in 'Down and Out in London and in Paris'.
