It is the way to bring in a road pricing scheme by the back door, or if you like another way for introducing the 'Congestion Charge' which a while back, was voted on and rejected.

When all of the country has got the electronic technology in place, and just remember these ANPR cameras are solar-powered, and they send their data via the mobile phone network, so they can just fasten one of those cameras, on lamp post anywhere, and the sneaky thing will work autonomously, and it is truly like the 'Big Brother' thing coming true.

When most of the vehicles in the country have been replaced and are emission compliant, or electric, then the government will announce that the Car Tax (road fund licence) system will be ended, and replaced with a road pricing scheme, charging motorists to use the roads, the more you drive, the more you will pay.
