But no one buys exactly one1 litre of petrol GB and if one garage charges £1.499p a litre and another charges £1.498p which is the better deal? Particularly if you are running a fleet of vehicles and buying say 25,000 litres a week?

People buy £30, £40 £50 worth or fill their tanks up. Garages themselves buy tens of 1000s of litres every week. When you are dealing with large numbers of litres that 0.009p becomes significant.

An exact litre of petrol may cost £1.499p but you are going to pay £1.50p and in return you will get 1.001 litres of petrol.

Make sense?

Probably not!
