Yes, they 'came across the water' to make their fortune, they worked on various civil engineering projects, and I knew one of them, who told me that for years he towed a caravan round from job to job, and earned good money, he was actually a 'tunneller' although Irish he settled down in Wigan, married a Wigan lass, and bought a house in Springfield, the Irish belong to the 'common travel area' which exists between Britain and Ireland which gives citizens of each country full residency rights, they can do anything they can work, vote, bank etc
This arrangement was reinstated upon Brexit, however referring to Billinge Bikers comment, the scumbag travellers who blight this country are descended from those Irish immigrants who worked on the motorways etc, and they are not the true Romany Gypsies
