A lot of these will be bought as an investment and never ridden or even started up, in the hope that sometime in the future they will get a good return on their money.
When I bought my Commando there was one coming off the production line without any oil in the engine and it was going straight in a glass case in some ones office.
The thing with biking is it's a physical past time and the older you get the more creaky you are, to the point where you might have the money but your body is buggered, so you should have bought it while you were up to scratch and able to enjoy it , then as your health got worse you can look back and think "Well at least I had a few years enjoyment to look back on" after all it's only money and when your skint they can't take away your memories.
