Anyway, onto better matters.
TTS, Is it still the same down Rectory Lane, in the area of the bridge?
Although I go down Rectory Lane occasionally and I have been down Rectory many times, I tend not to go as far as 'The Owls'.
My memory of the bridge and that area is the same as the way you described it all. I remember that it always seemed to be wet, even in summer, and there was always water running down the pavement and down part of the roadway. Also, it was always dull as there were many trees blocking out the sunlight and there were many bushes to the side of the lane.
I also remember when there were no traffic lights and that it was quite dangerous as there was a slight dogleg which caused difficulty to clearly see oncoming traffic.
As you stated, it was dangerous when the weather was very cold. In winter, when it was below zero degrees, the place was treacherous due to the amount of water there freezing.
When I have time, I will have to have a walk down Rectory Lane. It will be nice to take a look at the place (bridge area) after such a long time.
