Also, on the topic of Standish. In the documents which I have seen, it stated the following:
- 'Standish is a village in the Metropolitan Borough of Wigan which is in the Metropolitan County of Greater Manchester'.
I know that Standish is a 'township'.
But! If I were ever talking to someone about Standish, I would describe the place as a small town close to Wigan and not too far away from Manchester. This is due to the fact, when you start talking to some people, especially from other countries, the idea they have of a village is that it is a very small community with a population of a few hundred people.
