Artificial lawns

Started by: JR (554)

As I am a keen and qualified garden/ Landscape designer I have always been against artificial lawns. However, I can see the benefits if the lawn is quality... no mowing, no scarifying, no weeds... or am I wrong. I walked past a guys house today who laid a very convincing and artificial lawn, only to see weeds throughout the sward. Evidently rooting in the silt yesterday. Dirt settles if you don't vacuum it out regularly and it is a nice growing area for several weed seeds. However it's the first time I've noticed this.

I walk past a few of these lawns and some have faded and others look flat. I will stick to my natural lawns weeds and mowing included Also walked past a few skips over the years which had artificial grass thrown into them

Peter, I think artificial grass should just be for roof terraces where its difficult to import soil.
Nothing nicer than a good quality lawn that is well maintained. I remember years ago pricing up a job for a guy with a huge house and garden. The front lawn was bowling green quality and he actually played bowls on it!

A chap in our street had an artificial lawn fitted earlier this year. I thought at the time that it didn't take them long! After a couple of hours heavy rain this morning it looks like it should have ducks on it

you can't beat a proper lawn and I've worked on mine since moving in 20 years ago, it was a jungle then and now its lovely but needs constant attention, My next door neighbour moved in in 2018 and asked me to make his like mine, so i did and now the two lawns together are happy, I was flattered one day when I was mowing and the postman came delivering the post and said, " this is the best lawn on Poolstock Lane " , I could't get through the front door my head was so swollen with that compliment,,
I've recently got a new next door but one neighbour and he asked, " how do you get the grass so green" I told him I use chicken manure to feed it but, you also have to mow it regular and take the weeds out and, Don't let any dogs near it, especially bitches, they will kill the grass, I'd like to hear any tips from you JR because, I'm always willing to learn more,
