Suicide 1943?
Does anybody know any information on a suicide in 1943? She was found in a gas filled bedroom on teck street after hearing she had lost her boyfriend in the navy.

Her name on her grave (which she shares with my uncle who died in the navy) is Elizabeth Elsie Walsh. She was 17

Mother’s maiden name was Agnes Jennings. She married Anthony Walsh in June 1919. They lived at 18 Teck Street.

Thanks for the info Gaffer.. I’m trying to find out more about it. She is buried with my great uncle and his family I’m trying to find out if her family know where she is buried

The grave index says Michael Speakman , it was in fact Richard Speakman born 1924, he was the son of Ethel Speakman and stepson of Michael Kinane , he was accidentally shot by one of his crew mates
Elizabeth died at her sisters house 4 Albions Yard Millgate , her sister was Margaret, married name Kelly. (source of info from the Wigan Observer)
The Grave is a war grave and a photo of it can be found on the CWGC website

I looked at it on the films in the museum in Wigan, dont know where you are situated, but I will try to get the full transcript for you , but dont know when they are open now due to the holidays but i will get it when I can, dont know if you can get it online but if you can I would imagine there will be a charge??

"SEAMAN ACCIDENTALLY SHOT"
The funeral took place on Thursday last week, of able seaman Richard Speakman, the son of Ethel Kinane of 127 Chestnut Road Whelley, he was killed on 22nd December ,through the accidental firing of a pistol by one of his messmates. His death was instantaneous.
Able seaman Speakman who was 19 years of age , joined the Royal Navy on the 28th December 1942. he was formerly a builders labourer.
Requiem Mass was said by FR. J . Whiteley at St Marys R.C. Church Standishgate and interment followed at Wigan Cemetery.
Fr. Hopkins performed the last rites. His coffin was draped with the Union Jack
The funeral arrangements were carried out by Messrs Middleton & Wood
There is also a photo of him(head and shoulder shot in uniform attached to the report
The article about Elizabeth is in the same newspaper same date but on page 5
