techo call to Tonker

Tonks. I have 2 small solar panels on my campervan roof, both 30 watt they work interior lights and 2 small fridges, one is a 12 volt and another though a inverter is 240, If i use the fridges in this nice weather the 2 leisure batteries are not man enough to cope, , At the moment the panels are wired in parallel, Would wiring then in series help or hinder ?

They should be wired in series, Tom, if the charger can take the voltage. It keeps the current down. That's what you need to know, the voltages of the panels. Add the voltages together for series connection and then check your charger's 'maximum input voltage'.
You need at least a 100w panel really.
Wire your loads directly off your batteries.
a 24v system would make half the current of a 12v one. The less current the better.

Reet, thanks Tonks, I'll try that out,

I've changed my expansion vessel and pressure relief valve on t'combi boiler today, Tom. Quite an easy job, but it's always a bollox bleeding all the radiators after!

yea it is with a combi, the trick is, leave the filler valve open slightly, then you bleed the rads without, running around the house like a demented spider,

I was running round the house like a demented spider, Tom, so I was!

update on solar system, I wired the 2 panel in series and the outputs are off the batteries not the controller, Because the day had lots of sun I left the 12v fridge on and the display on the controller showed the panels were charging and the batteries had 13.5 volts, Reet so I had a drive to the seaside and a walk round the prom laaaaike and, When I came back to my van, the controller had no display, The fridge had gone off but had been working cos the stuff was cowd, I measured the battery's and they had 13 volts and the panels were sending 20 volts to the controller ,
My guess is the controller in knackered so. I'll change that tomorrow

dust agree,,

It certainly seems like the controller is faulty if it's gone off. But, it's been working as it's charged the batteries to 13v. If your batteries are good (showing 13v doesn't automatically mean they are) they should be running your fridge regardless of the charger working or not (that's if the fridge runs directly off the batteries).
What is the maximum input voltage of your controller? Tell me which one it is and I'll look it's specs. up. What batteries have you got?
What is your fridges power rating?

ore me yed, , I'm a practical mon , I do stuff and if it works, its reet, ratings and figures are for know nowts,
law of life is, figures can lie and, liars can figure ,
I'll work it out one road or thuther,

"I'm a practical mon , I do stuff and if it works, its reet"

But the solar charged battery system you've done doesn't work, so it's not reet.
It's up to you. But, if your charger is only rated for, say, 15v maximum input and you've put 30v in it, you might've broke it.
Even so, those batteries should still run your fridge without charger or panels.

aye, I see your antinegatafions and I'm on a learning curve, sooner or later, I'll get it reet,

Tom, try this. It should make it simpler for you.

If you obtain and contain negative polar energy and introduce it to an enhanced form of perpetual motion, use dichroic re-energised halogenic power you surprisingly acquire a holographically designed cylindrical negative magnetic thruster.

Bob's yer wotsit.

Reet so after todays experiments and episodes ,
I rewired the solar panels and, They are showing to be charging but, I dunno how much so,. I took out my 'smart charger' and gave the leisure batteries a ' smart charge', It was charging all day and. thats what they do and tells me that, the panels are not good enough to keep the leisure batteries topped up,
because I've installed the batteries under the seating I can't tell you any techo info so. tomorrow, I get them out and give specs and go from there,
