Chewing snuff

Started by: PeterP (12343)

I was reading about the latest craze mainly by footballers to have a mouth full of what they call chewing snuff. When I worked at the pit in the 80's a chewing snuff was on the market instead of chewing tobacco. It was withdrawn because it was causing mouth ulcers/cancer. I hope this is not a updated version of that muck

I just googled this thinking it might be something different to the old stuff. There are videos on youtube on how to make your own. And there are some very gruesome photos of what it can do to your mouth,

I had to fill in a questionnaire at the dentist, one question was have you ever used chewing tobacco, because cancers are linked to it's use. Only tried it once at the pit, put me off it for life.

I once tried snuff off the back of my hand in the pub.I can only associate with a severe account of hay fever.

I remember "Hedges" snuff which was strong but there was a milder snuff. Come on all you ex pitmen remind me what it was?

Was that Cyril Cunliffe's next to the old school, name I forgot (St Peter?) which then moved to a bigger shop near the traffic lights on Wigan rd. I did a paper round there for about 5 years in the 70's/early 80's. The other shop was Dillons.
