Lisa Nandy is the MP for the constituency of Wigan, she has been Wigan's MP since 2010, and she is one of three Labour Party MP's in the Metropolitan Borough of Wigan, the others being Josh Simons, who is the MP for Makerfield, and Jo Platt who is the MP for Atherton & Leigh.

Lisa Nandy is the MP for the Wigan constituency, not the constituency of Wigan.
And she is one of FOUR Labour Party MP's in the Metropolitan Borough of Wigan.

Perhaps Hacker T Dog might be interested in becoming the MP for Wigan.

At least as a local resident, he would spend more time in the constituency!

Wigan is REPRESENTED by 4 MPs. Wigan HAS 3 MPs.
On the eastern edge of the Wigan MBC area the constituency boundary of Worsley and Eccles encroaches into the Wigan area.As a result the citizens of the Wigan council wards affected are represented by the MP for Worsley and Eccles.

Gaffer, Wigan is represented by ONE MP. That’s Lisa Nandy, the MP for Wigan Parliamentary Constituency, of which Wigan is a constituent part.
The Atherton electoral ward is a constituent part of the Bolton West Parliamentary Constituency. However the Atherton electoral ward is a constituent part of the Wigan Metropolitan Borough, which is a local government area and is not connected to any Parliamentary constituency.

Gaffer, you use the words “encroaches” and “affected” as if to imply that the citizens of the Atherton electoral ward are in some way unfortunate to be in a different parliamentary constituency than one which is Wigan related? Ridiculous talk indeed!

Tonker

Pre 1974 it was Wigan County Borough with one MP.
Post 1974 it is Wigan Metropolitan Borough with 3 MPs.

Below is the official listing of candidates for the 2024 election issued by the Returning Officer for Wigan.

It must have changed very recently, Gaffer, because Atherton ward was in Bolton West constituency.
That makes it even worse, because Eccles and Worsley are both in Salford City region, not Wigan Borough. Astley and Tyldesley are as much ‘Wigan’ as they are Blackpool ie: NOT AT ALL. They should be part of Salford too.

Anyway, as I said earlier, to say a parliamentary constituency “encroaches” or “affects” a local authority is still daft!

PS: regardless, APLS is still wrong!

PPS: you are still wrong with your “Wigan is REPRESENTED by 4 MPs. Wigan HAS 3 MPs.”

No matter how many constituencies there are in the Wigan area and indeed the country, the truth is that there are now far too many MP's in Parliament doing very little representation judging by the number in the Commons Chamber who are never there unless it something of national importance, the budget or the weekly Prime Ministers Question time etc.

Lisa Nandy being a prime example!

p.s. We might as well have Hacker T Dog as the MP for the Wigan seat for what little she does for her constituency!

Totally agree. But Nandy is supposed to be our MP and working to improve this consistency. I see no signs of that or in fact, nor her in person. She's safe as houses in this neck of the woods and she knows it.
She doesn't even respect us. She made that perfectly clear when she said "Half of the people in Wigan don't know who Elon Musk is" And this was on National TV.

You’ve probably used PayPal a company he cofounded. You may even use X, formerly Twitter, another of his companies.
Outside of politics he’s best known for Tesla electric cars and Starlink satellites. There are over 7000 Starlink satellites in orbit providing global mobile broadband.

He has his finger in many pies, thankfully not the Wigan pies Seriously though. The remark she made was uncalled for and gave the impression that half the population of Wigan unaware of what's going on in the world. It made my blood boil.

Thank you for the explanation, Gaffer.
I have heard of the companies, but I'd never heard of him. I did not know he was involved with them.

Jathbee.
I can fully understand you're disapproval of the said comment.
However, she could have been having a thinly veiled dig by saying he is not very well known over here?

Never mind Elon Musk, there’s a few ‘Wiganers’ who don’t know who their current MP is.
One of my mates is from Ince, now living in Hindley, he didn’t even know what Makerfield constituency was, let alone the fact that he lived in it.
Another, born and bred in Wigan, thought the MP for Wigan was Ian McCartney, because he’d heard that he was “the Wigan MP”!

In general, Wiganers aren’t a full shilling and Lisa Nandy knows it!

I think you are being far too kind to Lisa Nandy. And if it was supposed to be an a thinly veiled dig about Musk not being well known over here, then it was certainly a less than diplomatic remark using half of the population of Wigan as an example. In fact, as our MP I found it blatantly offensive. Perhaps she's taking lessons in rudeness from Trump and his side kick Vance.

You only have had to view programmes of Question Time to see her behaviour and rudeness!

She should stick to her forte as a presenter of art and antiques as she is no neutral presenter of politics.
