ADVERTS

Started by: mollie m (8759)

I know i-spy put a thread on here about ads on this forum which are very intrusive, but it’s come to my notice that, apart from the annoying number of ads that pop up on here, there are some really nauseous ads on TV at the moment.

There’s one showing a child wiping her snotty nose on her sleeve advertising paper hankies.

One with a woman sat on the toilet with her trollies down to her ankles reading the newspaper. Presumably about her bowel problem.

And one advertising a new doggy dry food which proudly shows us an interesting little pile of dog turds. No imagination needed for that.

What, in the same of sanity, are the producers of this sort of advertising thinking that they’re going to entice us to buy what they’re trying to flog? What makes them think that we’re going to admire this sort of rubbish and think, “oh I must put that on my shopping list”?

I mute all the ads that come on, so I don’t listen to them.

Are there any others that you find distasteful?

I don't see any ads on Wigan World I use an ad blocker. You should get yourself one.

I use an ad. blocker. But I can't read a lot of stuff, like A.P.L.S.'s Daily Express Brexit Link. It wants me to get rid of my ad. blocker, or "pay" !

Yes, I know about Ad-Blocker and I used to have it but, the problem was, if I wanted to watch something on ITVX, I was disallowed because it blocked out the ads on there as well, so I gave up.

They're bad enough on telly but at least I can shut them up and play a game of Solitaire over the top of them, but I occasionally get a glimpse of ads on there. These on here are a darned nuisance though as they pop up almost every time I click to a different post, then they pop up again during them, some covering the whole screen.

Ah well. I guess I'll just have to live with the rubbish.

I find the adverts for ladies tampons distasteful and that lady in the gym doonin' stuff and mentioning Peey pants, is just yuckie,

I've not seen your second one, Tom, but I think different adverts come on ITVX than ITV itself. Some are the same though, obviously.

What gets me the most though is that, lady things have been known about for a very long time, so no need to advertise them making them sound like the best thing since sliced bread.

It's part of life, Tom, for 50% of the population. And for a few men too nowadays, they reckon!

That advert for Just Eat does my head in. It's based on that Squid game. I had to have it explained to me what it was advertising! A waste of money if you ask me. Folk sat watching telly, they watch an advert and don't know what's being advertised? Madness.

"Our house, in the middle of our street"!

Or, in Wiganese - "ouwer 'ouwse, in the middle of ouwer street, laaaaike!"!

And that's another thing. I know we don't pay for the adverts, but just how much do they cost to set up? Young lasses running with leopards to advertise a bottle of scent, for instance.

A bloke mopping a floor with the latest mop rag. Another bloke nibbling away at a chip teaching his child bad table manners.

Then there are those that you haven't a clue about until they show a new iPhone or summat right at the end.

It's all too much I tell ye, all too much!

Aye, Mollie. And I bet none of 'em are "Part P Registered"!

I bet they're not, Tonker, and don't start all that again!

Another one has just come to mind which I start to watch if I'm not quick enough to cover it over. It starts off with a cheyseburger, then a woman swipes her finger through some mayo or summat, then the camera goes to her face showing such an ecstatic expression on her face. Now THAT one drives me bonkers.

What do you think of the 'On the Beach advert' advert., featuring Paddy McGuinness pretending not to swear! He's far from a 'Genious'!

Never seen it. Like I said, I try to mute and cover as many adverts as I can, but sometimes I'm not quick enough. I only vaguely know who Paddy McGuinness is anyway. Also, like I said, I think some ads that come on ITVX are different from those on ITV.
