Can anyone recommend a decent plumber who will turn up and is reasonable to fix a drip on my combi boiler.

( suuuuck air though teeth) a drip on a combi is not something that a plumber will come and fix for a Tenner anymore, I'm retired and glad to be out of it, I can't recommend any of the plumbers I've met because, the yung uns won't even knock on your door for less than £100 and they might not even fix it for that,

Can you see where 'the drip' is coming from?
What boiler is it?
You see, it could be that a part needs replacing and if it's coming from the heat exchanger you'd may as well replace the boiler. Laaaaike!

if you can't see the leak then, I'll assume the pressure is falling and you are topping up, am i right ?

I have a Glow-Worm. Mine has a faulty pressure relief valve. It sometimes drips, but mostly it blows about a cup-full of water out (into a plastic jug, positioned there for that purpose) and won't switch on the morning after because it's pressure has gone.
It could be that. That said, it could be lots of things. But it won't be a spark plug if it's a diesel !

Tonker, you relief valve its doing its job, test it by turning the red knob ( oo err missus ) you will hear a thud that shows its gone home, I'd put my money on the expansion vessel, it will have a valve on it like a tyre does and you can inflate it to 1.5 bar, If it won't hold that, then it needs changing but the cost is not economic, its better to add a new expansion vessel near the boiler on the return pipework,

I put a new remote one on a couple of years ago. The vessel holds it's pressure, but I don't know if it's full of water (ie: burst diaphram?). I'll have to check it. When I get taaaaime. Laaaaike!

Peter, there's quite a few plastic parts on those
glowworm boilers and they are fixed in place by 'O' rings and springs, I'd get a Glowworm fixed price repair guy out,
or take out a warrantee with them

PeterG, I'd consider 1.9 bar too high a pressure, especially as GlowWorm use a lot of push-fit parts (like Tom said). I only ever pressure mine up to 1.0 bar (that's cold pressure). I think it switches off at 0.5 bar.
Tom, my leak is the zone pressure relief valve, connected to the filling loop. I think it's push-fit. It blows every couple of days.

That one off fix price has sky-rocketed since I used them about 7 years ago, it was only £220 then, now £399, and they cover themselves by saying "if your boiler is beyong economical repair, we'll only charge you £99 for the 'engineer's' (?) time"! .......... "sorry luv, your heat exchanger / control board / diverter valve / pump / fan etc., etc., etc., are knackered. It's not economical to repair" .... ""Bye"!

Have a look at these Glow-Worm parts prices. They'll make your eyes water!

My Mother In Law had a very similar problem a few months ago, peterg.

We got her a local gas engineer out to have a look at it who lives nearby to her ( whom we know vaguely) and he sorted it within minutes and it wasn't expensive. I don't know exactly what he did or, what the fault was, but I can find out for you?

I had a Baxi and it dripped from the diaphragm occasionally.A bloke from Daisy Hill replaced it for me,Ithink his name was Ball and did not charge much but he has probably retired. It was a very easy fix.

PeterG, the first thing I'd do is let some pressure off the loop. Try 1 to 1.2 bar cold.

Took the radiator water out a bit but it still reads 1.9 bar then it cuts out and says F75 code

Billy Frost... He must be related to the guy who installed my first Gas Boiler after changing from oil. Believe it or not his name was Jack Frost. I can't remember how much he charged. probably half the price of a company. I'm going back now maybe35/ 40 years? He worked for British Gas but did it as a foreigner. A neighbour wanted to change from oil to gas and Jack said he would do it for the same price he charged me.. The neigbour said they would get British Gas to do it. (at double the price Jack was asking.) Guess who did the job for British Gas??? Jack..
