A STRANGE HAPPENING

Now then, get your heads around this one.
On 16 January my big fireplace electric heater packed in, leaving me with just one little portable floor standing heater. I’d kept trying the big one in the hope that it would just come back on because I’ve been really cold since.
Today when I got up, I opened my living room door and thought “why is it warm in here,” then I heard the sound of electricity. When I went in, the big heater had come back on by itself in the night, and I swear I’d switched it off once it had packed in.
Anyone know how that could happen, because it’s got me totally foxed.

forgetfulness is the logical answer , you forgot to turn it off . My problem is anxiety, I check and double check I've turned things off and sometimes I go to bed and after half an hour get up and check again,

That's a possible explanation Tom, although I always check things before going to bed, BUT, 10 days after shutting itself down? Now that's weird.

electrical components can be volatile Mollie, a stat can stick open or shut then, for no reason at all, start to work again and if you shut the control but not the on/off switch, that can happen, always shut off at the isolator or the plug to be sure

That's what I meant Tom. I'd switched the appliance off at the plug. I always do. It's still a conundrum, but I'm glad it's back as it will save me buying another little heater.

That does make sense Mollie, if its off at the plug . it cannot come on unless one of SLAPS Aliens, turned the plug back on,

I get 5 gallon of kerosene from Booths in Apply bridge at a cost of £16 and that will last me all this year.

That looks a lot safer than your last one, Tom, and very economical as well.
Wow, I'm roasting in here now so I'd best turn me fire off.

If the socket has a switch and you have been switching it off on load it could be the socket switch.Get someone to check it out.I am sure you know someone.Stay safe

Retep, the fire is plugged into a 4-way extension lead with switches, but that's the only appliance plugged into it.
Oh yes, I know at least 20 electricians, plus my brother who was a Technician Electrician before he retired, so no worries there, and thank you. I'll stay safe.

"Oh yes, I know at least 20 electricians"
