Sheltered accomodation
Hello everybody I have just joined the group and this is my first post. I am looking for advice about sheltered accomodation for the elderly. My mum is 92 and lives alone in her own house but due to poor health she can't manage by herself any longer. Her family do what we can but she needs more help than we can provide. We are thinking a one bedroom council bungalow or flat in Wigan with access to help if she needs it. She does not want to sell her house. Does anyone have a ball park figure how much it might cost.

An elderly relative of my son in law is exactly the same. She doesn't want to sell the house ( for some reason, its her choice ) but she has the money to pay the accommodation fees, which are very expensive for what she gets.
She's now residing in a private old peoples home which is not cheap
I don't know if you can get a council bungalow or council accommodation if you are a property owner?
It's worth enquiring about though.
Good luck.

Wigan council are just finishing off building a brand new state of art sheltered accommodation on the old Miles Lane Junior School site in Shevington.
It's got lots of land around it that used to be the school playing fields to walk around and it's right next door to the Doctors surgery and clinic.
It comes with lovely views to the west, so you will see lovely sunsets over Ashurst Beacon and Parbold Hill.

Thanks for your replies cheshire cat and big Harold. I found a list of council owned sheltered accomodations available for rent but there are only three available at present. One is too far away and the other two are second floor apartments which are not suitable. There is a list of privately owned properties but they are much more expensive. We have decided to adapt her own home with a stair lift etc and carer support if needed and see how that works out. I am going to apply to the council for a disability facilities grant to help with the cost.
