Its an old name but its still there. Its the on the LeedsLiverpool Leigh branch , The canal bridge just past the Scotmans flash. Its now metal but, at one time it was stone and when you were coming from Leigh down the canal the bridge looked like a stone pig. So thats why it got that name

How far is that. I wouldn't be able to make it to the top our street these days. Mind you, I've not ridden a bike in about 65 years!

Its a fair owd push Mollie but, we are all owd men, the yung un today was Ian, a 61 year owd who still plays futebaw, he goes skiing in Winter and is fit as a butchers dog, Us others today are all in the 70's plus club so we struggle to keep with him but, Oh what fun we have and as the old saying goes.
" use it or lose it" , That is my guiding star

When I was of secondary school age, along with two school mates, I went on regular sunday bike rides visiting the steam train depots around Manchester like Patricroft, Trafford Park, Longsight, Belle Vue, Gorton including works and Newton Heath.

Would not like to try doing it today with all the traffic now on our roads.

you're right there Owd Codger, We try as much as we can to stick to ' off road' routes and , chat moss is good for having no traffic, We get there from the leeds/Liverpool canal or the guided bus route from Leigh which has a good cycle path,
