With a stamp costing £1.65 and a card itself upwards of £1 each it isn't a cheap tradition!

I send cards to my buddies by email these days. My wife still sends cards though to fiends etc.

Which post office do you purchase your stamps from? You are being ripped off
As for the price of cards, I always buy them after Christmas in the seasonal sales and save them for the next Christmas. You can can get a box of 50 for less than a price of glass of wine!

Also most of mine are hand delivered, or given to family members in person.
The only ones that are posted via mail, are for family/ friends who live a good distance away.

Yes, £1.65 for a first class stamp is correct. That's exorbitant, plus the cost of cards. I buy boxes as well, but for my two friends (who have been especially helpful to me since last year) and my brother who are closest to me, I buy separate nicer cards.

Many of us in our street hand deliver cards to each other, but I don't give the neighbours the same cards if I can help it but, as to mailing cards these days, I only have one friend not easily in reach, so I email her as she's in Canada which costs much more to mail.

Nobody got a card off me last year as I was in hospital all over Christmas, but I'll make it up to them this year.

There is only 24 hours difference in estimated delivery time, and its almost 50% cheaper. I just post mine earlier. It's a big saving

Mollie I send cards to Canada via Moonpig, its much cheaper and they're
quick on time, You can't guarantee the smail mail because you're dependant on
Royal mail, air Mail, customs, flights, Canada customs, Canada Mail, and Canada Weather , Too many variants and change of hands . Moonpig is much better and depending on the card and or present with it, very reasonable in my opinion,

And yes, I hand deliver cards to my neighbours who I get on with and when a new neighbour comes, I put a card through their door to let them know our names and break the ice because, The community spirit that I grew up with has gone, Cards can encourage the community spirit back but, Only if the newcomers want it, Not everyone does,

It does not matter which courier you use to send a package / parcel / card overseas as they are all liable to customs checks if the powers that be decide to check them. So, delays in receiving them are possible

In fact, Moonpig actually use Royal Mail / air mail for a lot of their transportation needs.

Perhaps if Royal Mail was opened up to competition like the parcel delivery service, their prices might not be as expensive.

What was a first class postal service has gone downhill and become seond class postal service ever since Thatcher put it into the private sector!

As for not sending a Christmas card by post, those who do not must be a modern day Scrooge!

You can buy cards cheap in budget shops or buy them half price in the Jan sales and store away. it's the price of the stamps that sends the cost up. But then I enjoy sending them but may cut my list this year. I also love receiving them and putting them up for display, You cant do that with an ecard can you?
