Where have all the birds gone I have a bird table on which I put suet pellets with mealy worm in them ,I also have suet balls hung up on the bird table . For the last few days no birds have been anywhere near the table and I have not heard the dawn chorus or the screeching of the gulls over the last few days.I don't think it as been anything to do with fireworks has none have been let off close by i went out about 6-00ish and scrapped the suet loose which had stuck to the table

I think with the weather being so mild the birds are still getting plenty food from wild sources. Hopefully when the cold returns so will the birds?

There is still plenty of natural food in the wild, insects, berries, grubs, slugs etc due to the mild weather. They will come back.

I’ve just been watching a little robin trying to get to the suet pellets that I’ve got hung up..but a blackbird is stood guarding them,on the branch in front of the tree…that’s exactly what it looks like..the little robin keeps trying to get near but the blackbird won’t budge..I’ve never seen that happen before.

Ironic this morning I have been digging a bamboo stump out of my front garden and stopped to talk to a lady walking her dog. She said look behind you there is a Robin and she said it will be looking for worms/bugs that you are digging up. It was only about a foot away and did not seemed bothered about me working It just hopped around me has though I was not there

Blackbirds will do that, and Robins can be handfed worms with a bit of patience.

A friends hubby was digging in their garden and the little robin was sat on his spade just waiting for any worms being dug up.

Have you got a tree or bushes near the bird table so that birds feel safer?

Kath There is a round Viburnum bush about 2ft away from the table which is like a (standard rose) about 3ft round on a 2ft x4" round trunk . Sometimes the cats sneak up behind the bush then try to leap onto the table I had to put wooden Dowling bars half way between the table and the roof to stop this happening.Lived here 10years and have always been plagued with cats

In the last twenty years of living here ( Fylde ) the birds of all kinds have dropped by seventy five percent, and I live in the country. Hardly any sparrows at all.

The greater spotted woodpeckers (M&F) have now reappeared. Humphrey the semi-tame pheasant and squirrels are continuing their daily squabbles.

Peter I look get lots of cats. it's not helped by my daft neighbour who puts out food and attracts all the neighbours pets, Mind you, they do catch the odd pigeon who scavenge our bird food as it drops on the floor

May of solved the mystery of some of the birds. I have just had a weeks holiday in Malta with temperatures even at this time of year 20-22 C. There were 1000's of Sparrows and plenty of flies for them to feast on
