What more can be said when in only three months, they have shown themseves to be no different than the Tories!

But no surprise when New Labour are now no longer a Socialist Party!

Apparently, the money that is going to saved from the ending of the heating allowance to some pensioners is going to be offset by the extra cost that the NHS is going to need to deal with the increased number of the same pensioners who are likely to get a illness during the winter as a result of the decisision.

OC some of the money that they thought they would save has now been lost because more pensioners have woke up and started to claim pension credit which in turn opens them up to other benefits Serves them right. My family keep telling me to go SKIing not on snow with planks of wood on my feet but Spend my Kids Inheritance. I along with my late wife worked and saved for our later life.but if these politicians have their way then I will do has i am told and spend all of our hard earned cash then if there are any benefits I can claim then I will
They have took the heating allowance
Next will be the £10 bonus at Christmas
There is talk of doing away with the 25% rates reduction for single occupancy
Also talk of stopping the Free bus pass
Also talk of putting a tax on large gardens
Also talk of allowing councils to raise the council tax above 5%
It is no good promising to raise state pensions if they don't raise the personnel allowance even more pensioners will pay tax next year has it is
What they want to do is stop all overseas aid and stop the influx of boat people for starters

Pension credit has been available for over 20 years!
You can't blame the goverment whether it be Labour , tory or the coalition if pensioners didn't claim it!

Does anyone really think millionaire pensioners should get £300 fuel allowance now I'll concede it could have been done better

Hansomeminer

On that we agree, but at the same time do you think it is right that people living on today's far better benefit system which has encouraged lazyness should be getting as much if not more than those only getting the minimum wage, especially those who only get the flat rate and no higher premiums for working overtime or unsocial hours.

Give the elected government a decent amount of time before you hang draw and quarter them , also as for the " So named freebies" just ask yourself why didn't the tory press ie ,MAIL /EXPRESS just a couple for starters,, not print and tell us about all these "freebies" THAT SUNAK /JOHNSON/MAY/CAMERON/ ALL HAD ?????????????????????
I eagerly awiat your response .

I doubt if there will be any pensioners paying 40% tax who would miss the Winter Fuel Allowance! Would that not have been a better idea?

COMPLETELY AND UTTERLY AGREE WITH YOU THERE FEDUP.
ALL it what was needed was to increase thier 40% tax level up 1/2 points would have brought more in that stealing it from those that needed
it.
Don't get me wrong am LABOUR thro and thro and always will be ,BUT this particular decision was and is wrong ! As i say give them at least some time after all the other lot had 14 years so watch this space .

Just watched a number of recent political articles and interviews on You Tube and was appalled at what some Labour MP's were coming out with about what pensioners got with one commenting that pensioners who are only just above the pension credit limit should not get the winter allowance, free tv license and a bus pass because it is taking them over what they paid into the system. A young female Labour supporter in a well paid postion in something called IEA and who has never done any hard work in her short life saying that pensioners should not get anything paid for by hard working tax payers and not thinking that many pensioners have themselves been former hardworking taxpayers.

And if the above is not bad enough, part of the recent Labour Party Conference where trade Union leaders who are doners to the Labour Party complaining that their motions, some of which apparently were were critical of policies now being carried out by the leadership were not on the agenda for debate.

From what I saw on the many recent articles on You Tube, it would appeared that today many in the New Labour Party are no different than Tories in their political thinking.

Who needs enermies when they exsist on your own side?

OC , I would love to meet that stupid girl on about not giving pensioners anything from the taxpayer. I would ask her, if she should include me because I pay over £2000 income tax per annum and I'm 76 years of age. Money doesn't dictate your health, I know lots of pensioners with debilitating illnesses, who would suffer greatly if they didn't receive the benefit for that illness, because of the pittance of a pension they get.

Handsome miner, I have never said I would need the allowance ( and btw, it's £200 for a single occupied home like mine ). My objection , and still is, is that millions because they are just above the cut off point will lose too much. No matter what anyone says about the wealthy getting it , and I don't think they should if they can afford not to have it, but has anyone calculated how many wealthy pensioners there are, compared to people that genuinely need it. I think there'll be a lot less than people think. To me it's an obscene act against pensioners, and I would have that opinion against any government that undertook such a practice.

Whoopsie, we know people on pension credit can get lots of additional help, but they aren't the people I have mentioned. I mentioned the people just above the cut off point for pension credit, if you'd have cared to read it properly. Why are you still trying to defend this awful act, when most of the people and your own trade unions are against it. Are you one of the " rich " pensioners so not bothered about other pensioners.

A ‘couple’ with 2 children, only him working, but he’s got a secure job and gets £23,000 a year, pays tax and national insurance out of that.
They get by.

A ‘couple’ both 66 and getting full pension, get £23,000 a year, pay no tax or national insurance.
Can’t manage. They ‘need’ winter fuel allowance?

Agreed with what you are pointing out tonker, but that's on the premise that they had the qualifying years . How many pensioners can say that they both worked for the 35 years needed.

no freecky not like you . i,m not defending anything just stating that those who are just over the threshold are getting £5-6 grand less that those who are "supposed" to need it when they are far better off than people like those who are really needing it are penalised for having a few quid over the limit .

I only know that my Wife and I after working hard all our lives and paying Income Tax and National Insurance contributions now find as pensioners that that we are now no better off than many of the workshy living on the benefit system, those on pension credit or the scroungers flooding into the country by boat and being well treated in spite of never having paid a penny into the system.

If the above is not bad enough, we now have a Labour Government carrying out the kind of policy you expect from the Tories!
