Summer/Winter adjustments,

Started by: tomplum (14062)

What are yours, I'm now opening my winter modelling of, balsawood aircraft building and public transport trips,
Tom's winter travel trips start this week with a day out in Liverpool, from Bryn station for £7.20 for a return ticket to Liverpool, Call them what you like but those Scousers have a Brill City and more places of interest with cheap prices than most others because, their council looks after the elderly and less better off, Where as the Gov't gives us a bus pass at 67 years old, L'Pool gives their bus passes and train passes and ferry pases to anyone 60 years old, A true Labour council,,
Well done Scousers,

You can go from Preston on Stagecoach to Liverpool for £2. Me, being a pensioner, can go there and back with my bus pass free.

Years ago we used to park the car on in-laws drive bottom of Station road then catch a train to Southport via Liverpool using a rover ticket which cost £1

I too like Liverpool, especially the Maritime stuff, and I have visited the Maritime Museum several times since it opened LINK

Scousers tend to have a laid back and less agressive approach than the Mancunians, but they are lazier than a Mexican donkey.

But as regards affluence and infrastructure, I think that Manchester is years ahead of Liverpool.

When in Liverpool I like to catch a ferry across the mersey LINK

They are building a new Mersey Ferry LINK

I am not interested in the Beatles stuff, because it is just comercialised rip off stuff, although I do and did like the Beatles

Tommy, next jolly boys out trip is going to be Manchester and, I totally agree that Scousers are funny and helpful and manks are more arrogant and unhelpful in general , I've worked in Both area's and I've formed my opinion from those years,

I may have an adventure to Ormskirk market by bus Bit of a trek 610 to Alexandra park about 20-25 mins nip over to Ormskirk Rd catch 375/385 to Ormskirk 1hr 25 mins.Have a mooch around then 2 hrs home. Not bothered as a need a rest from all the work in the back garden. I know I could catch a bus to Bryn then a train to Wigan then another train to Ormskirk or stop on bus to Wigan then catch a train.Looked on journey planner and it planned Bus to Bryn train to Wigan then a train to Preston then a train to Ormskirk, Journey time was quicker by this route but would cost a fortune in fares

152 Ormskirk bus from St.Helens is only £2.
Train from St.Helens is £6.10, change at Lime Street. Either way is cheaper and a lot quicker than going from Wigan.

Cheshire cat its the same bus which comes from Wigan the 375 or385.
Tonker would have to get 320 bus to St Helens 1st and the buses cost me nowt after 9-30am . Its a ride out and see the country side not in any rush now a days

Liverpool is a far better city to visit with better pubs and the people are more friendly than in multi language Manchester.

And it is not becoming a second New York with skyscrapers full of immigrants living in rabbit hutches they call apartments.

As for being lazy, the scousers I worked with were very hard working which is more than I can say for some fit and able local Workshy living around me and living on the benefit system.

People in glass houses should not throw bricks at others when they are no better!

I don't know what to make of your reply to me ?

I thought I praised Liverpool and it's people, the quip about them being lazier donkey, was said tonge in cheek.

However, there is no smook without a fire

Over the decades Liverpool has been run very badly, the militant elements of the ruling Labour Party in Liverpool have caused a lot of damage, and when Manchester was 'getting on with it' so to speak, Liverpool was not, Liverpool was a basket case, it was a failing city, and firms did not want to move or open up there, because of the bad reputation of the Liverpool people, as regards 'working'.

Owd Codger

Doo yoo remember the BBC's 'Boy's From The Black Stuff' that was a brilliant depiction of not just Liverpool in the early 1980's, but of places like Wigan too, I watch that program sometimes and it takes me back to Thatcher's Britain of the early 1980's, and the poverty, and urban dereliction which was around back then, and it were very bad

So Owd Codger, how about 'chin up' and take it on the 'chin' and realise that Manchester is light years ahead of Liverpool, however I find a visit to Liverpool, to be more interesting than a trip to Manchester, because of the reasons I stated earlier on

I seem to have offended Owd Codger by saying that Manchester has been better run than Liverpool.

I disagree with labour ruling badly in Liverpool Tommy tee, When Thatcher decided to stop building new council houses , Liverpool carried on building them and, was the only city that dared to disobey Thatcher, So I applaud Liverpool for that but, They did do a lot of, 'under the table' dealings as well and Who doesn't

Yet another potentially nice chatty thread turned into politics.

There are one or two folk on here that are so one track minded and live, eat and breathe politics that they're an absolute must to invite to parties, with their great sense of fun and witty repartee, and absolutely nothing better to talk about, or contribute.

It has become boring beyond belief so I give up.

You are right, Manchester is light years ahead of Liverpool as they have Trams, skyscrapers and a bigger multicultural society!

Otherwise?

And you have not offended me as I was only giving an alternative opinion to that of yourself and the way you have responded, it appears that you are the one who has been offended!

I always thought there was a direct train service from Wigan to Ormskirk. But on reading the above comments you either have to go to Liverpool or Preston So if I decide to venture out on a market day then it will by bus

You can catch a Wigan Wallgate to Southport train to Buscough Bridge and then catch a bus to Ormskirk for what I understand is only a £1 fare.

OC I am tighter than cramp. Why waste time and money going into Wigan to catch a train to Burscough Bridge to catch a bus to Ormskirk when I have a bus pass. I did not realize how many permutations there where to have a day out in Ormskirk thanks any way. If I wait another month or some I will be able to drive there and save all the faffing about I just wanted a day out on a bus to get away from working in the garden. Just took a 20ftx 18ft decking up and broke a pile of concrete up what was under this(next a large skip)I am not a spring chicken so feeling it in the bones

you can get a Southport train from Wigan Wallgate, they run regular and cost less than £15 for a return, there is a discount if you go with a friend and buy 2 tickets and there's no faffing from stations, no parking fee's no worry's about traffic or congestion just, relax and enjoy, See Elvis under the pier, Some days there's an impressionist and some days the REAL Elis himself is there,
