THINGS YOU MISS MOST
I drafted this topic last night about what things you miss from any era you’ve lived through that no longer exists.
I was going to mention shoe shops, but i-spy beat me to it today so, it could be a kitchen item, a street, a car, confectionary, anything that you wish was still available. What inspired me to think about this was Tuddy’s reply to me about a Penny Arrow in the Space Walkers thread. Remember them?
I miss proper record shops like the one in Pemberton. Dusty floorboards and racks and racks of LPs, EPs and singles that you could browse through without being pestered. There was a good one downstairs in Pendlebury’s in the 60s where you could ask for a single to be played in one of the booths to make sure it wasn’t scratched, same as the music shop in Grimes Arcade.

I miss the sound of the late sixties early seventies , evening brass latch door on a pub, It was a sound that led to a smell of beer and chat , no noisy duke box greetings or rowdiness, no kids , no meals and no swearing, A proper beer drinking pub,,

Ah well, that makes two of us. I get the younger lads at work asking me what were the 60s like. I tell them that I can't explain the sounds, the music, the fashion and everything else about it as they'd have to have lived it to understand.

No one of our age got took to skool in a car or, had a MacbloodyDonalds as a meal, if we wanted to meet someone, we had to walk to their house, we ate what Mum cooked and , if you did't like it, you did bawt because, there were no deliveroo, no pizza shops, chippys opened for dinner most days and tea on fridays only,
We lived through what the yoof would call ' boot camp' now but. then it was luxury to our parents,
they don't know they are born

So true, Tom. Some will disagree, but I think the 60s was the best time to live through. I don't remember any obese kids either because our mams cooked us proper meals. The only "takeaways" back then were the chippy and pie shops.
There were also no daft video games so we had to make our own fun, or play with toys that were given to us, or read books, play outside with other kids. Kids today are so entitled that they believe the world owes them and, sadly, some parents actually give them what they want instead being inventive with them.
When I was in my teens and working, if I wanted a new coat or something, mum would go halves with me, but I had to learn how to be self-sufficient in certain things and you never, EVER, gave your parents lip, or swore in front of them, otherwise you'd get a smack round the earhole.

Yet another one of Tonker’s cryptic clues. Tonker, I asked about things you miss most from a different era, not the 21st century.
Another thing I miss from a time gone by is the community spirit of folk. If anyone needed help with something, there was always someone there to give a hand, and everyone would look out for each other. That no longer exists, which I find very sad.
