Sonlyme, Isherwood's. I liked that shop as well.
My two favourites though were Timpson's and Freeman, Hardy & Willis.
I find it hard to buy shoes these days as I don't shop online. I like to see, feel, touch and try things before I buy them to make sure they're right.

Those were the days, the assistant gave you a shoehorn and helped you on with the shoes. You could have half a dozen shoes in front of you to try on.

I saw a lovely pair of shoes in Stylo so I went in to buy them. Told the assistant which I wanted, but she brought out the ugliest pair of shoes I ever saw. They were a slip on with a little heel, and an ugly great silver buckle on the front. Just to humour her, I tried them on, and she said "oh modom, they look so beautiful," then I asked her to get me what I'd asked for (I was 17). I think they were about £4.99.

I used to work at Lord and Sharman in Pemberton so I could get rejected shoes cheap. They were very much more cheaper than high street stores and only had a very minor defect. We were in trouble in 1973 and I got out to pursue a more advantageous career. Apart from a couple of people who worked there I haven't had any communication or met anyone (just a brief chat way back 74).
However, it would be nice to know some you are still about.
