I used to have a Ford focus and it was tax free, I traded in for my Berlingo to go camping and, Its the same engine but Berlingo has to pay road tax, I know its all supposed to be about emissions but its complicated, My mate has the same berlingo on a 09 plate, same engine size and his is gone up to £220 this year,

From 1st April 2025 electric vehicles will have to pay road tax, How will they work out what rates to pay has petrol/diesels is based on emissions. Most electric cars are heavier than a normal car and cause more damage to the roads so will this be part of the equation to working their road tax out

Our road tax last year was only £30 as we are content to only having a low 1198 cc petrol consumption vehicle which gets us from A to B and on checking, it will only be £35 the next time it is renewed.

Why does anyone, especially those who keep moaning about price increases or not be well off need to have a petrol guzzling SUV or a Audi/BMW,Mercedes and pay high insurance premiums, road tax ?

I can only think that it is because of some kind of keeping up with the neighbours or bettering them!
