A sad loss.

Started by: Billinge Biker (2823)

The young 15yrs old who has sadly lost his life at Scotsman's Flash. What has happened there ?..Was it an organised event/occasion..surely too cold to be swimming. I along with others have done similar in my reckless youth...swimming in the canal..orrell ressy's...blue lagoon...clay hole...I truly feel for his parents and family....Education at school is the way forward I think...but kids being kids,..a sad loss.

From what they are saying, there were organised events taking place on the flash, but the lad wasn't taking part in them, he was just having a swim, but the staff at the flash noticed that he was in trouble and they raced over to him, they do have a petrol driven inflatable dinghy on duty on the flash when events are taking place, for just such an emergency has what happened, but I don't know if that craft was on the water at the time, but the staff from the sailing club were on the scene very quickly, and they pulled him from the water and gave him CPR but unfortunately it was to late

That's very sad indeed. It's been way too cold to go outdoor swimming and could have had hypothermia resulting in shock. Only a post mortem will determine that though.

Those that have been left behind will be devastated.

My son does the open /wild water swimming normally at Pennington Flash under supervision . He has been swimming in Windemere and Coniston this year. He has all the appropriate gear suit gloves face mask(goggles) and at times even he as felt the cold water.
Our sympathies go out to the family of this young boy with the sudden loss of their son .
