Aye, it's not stopped all day and it's still at it. Even me little cat has been in most of the day and that's not like her at all, but she's just gone out for a tinkle.

Whereabouts in Wales are you going this time?

Powys , Mollie, uncharted territory, I've seen this camp site on face book called , Co Co's wild camping site, so going for a look see, then on to Bala lake and hopefully swerving the rain,

I looked up that CoCo's 'wild' camping site. There's nothing there, no proper facilities provided, middle of no-where ......... yet they charge £10 per person per night ?
That's a rip-off if I ever saw one. They can shove it where the wind don't blow!

I'd bet, on the way there, you'd pass several hotels which would do a room with 2 comfy beds, heating, toilet, shower, drinking water etc., for £35 a night.
That works out at £17.50 per person, per night.
I'm no puff, I like camping/sleeping rough/vanning it, but I wouldn't pay that for nothing!

If you are near Bala Lake, may I suggest that you visit the Bala Lake Narrow Gauge Railway at Llanuwchllyn where there is a cafe and small museum.

Enjoy your holiday!

Gone cold? I'm frozzent, and I've just put my little leccy fire on. I've known warmer Christmases. So much for cheaper heating during the summer.

I'm making a video, Tonker does not understand the trill of. man verses the elements, I was parked up there on a hill, This other camper was on a higher hill and she was a woman camper, She was playing, Lady verses elements, the weather was windy and cold. the clouds came and covered us, The van got rocked from side to side, You have pay at least a fiver in Blackpool for a ride like that and, it would last 3 mins, My thrill ride lasted all night, well worth the £10

The rain whips
the promenade,
it drips on your chips,
they turn to lard,
I’d send a card,
(if I had a pen).
I mustn’t go down to Powys again!

The farmers girl collected the cash
in a suv on the hills she'd dash
from camper to camper and tent she'd race
a red haired lass from Powys called grace,

when you count the cost of fuel and time
the ten pound cost is not a crime
cos Grace can hold her red head tall
because, when I was there, she made sod all,

My end of season camping trip in Wales, down to Powys first night with wind rain and some sunshine but come the night, come the mountain mist, high winds and heavy rain, So off to Bala, more high winds , rain and some sunshine, then a coastal drive up to Conwy for what was the best night on very comfortable campsite, then a very hairy drive home hydroplaning up the A roads and motorways home,
Wales camping in September 2024

So, not the best week to go camping eh, Tom. You should have waited till next week when it's going to be as lovely as it gets in September.

Will watch your video a bit later.

Tom, I've just watched your video and flippin' 'eck. If I'd been there I'd have been blown away, and I don't mean that as a euphemism, I mean literally. Could hardly hear some of your commentary because of that wind, but I enjoyed watching it anyway.

Thanks Mollie, I had winds , rain. hailstone and a little bit of sunshine, Wales is a luverly Country but those mountains don't half cause wind turbulence, I think that's why the RAF do low flying manoeuvres round them, There was a couple of low flying episodes during the few days but, by the time I found my camera they'd gone,

Well done Mollie, I had a luverly bike ride today, up to Billinge then, up to UpHolland and round the Monument towards Skem, then down Chequers into Crawford and a cafe stop in the farm cafe at Rainford junction, Then on towards the Rainford by pass on to the east Lancs road and back towards Carr Mill, Then up the side of the lake on Old Garswood Rd up to Pew fall, A left turn up to Garswood, Downhall green to soughers Lane and another left to Wigan Road to Marus Bridge and home 26.9 miles, Not a cloud in the Sunny blue sky, absolutely marvelous day

Seriously though owd lad, that's a fair old bike ride you had. It's keeping you fit if nowt else.

Mollie don't forget Tom has an leccy bike to assist him .Its not all pedal power

Replied: 17th Sep 2024 at 20:44

Peter its a pedal assisted cycle which means, You have to pedal it or it won't assist you, Don't get confused by seeing the deliveroo riders who wizz past without turning a pedal, Mine is not one of those and, I can turn off the power and just use it to climb the hills or battle against the head winds, My buddy today has Alzheimer's so, I have to keep him in view every stage of the ride because, he can just turn off at a junction so, I have to keep at his slow pace to monitor his every move, This means most of the ride is done with power off,, His doctor has advised his Wife that, as long as his road awareness is fine, keeping fit is good for him and socialising as well and. his road awareness his fine but, getting money from him to pay for is butty and cuppa, is another challenge, his selective memory is working fine

Electric bikes are are godsend to people who dont have the energy or fitness to cycle, but still like to get outside in the outdoors or even go to work on them.
But, If I had Alzheimer's I would hope I would be discouraged from cycling / driving any vehicle etc, not encouraged. Not only would I be a danger to myself, but also to other road users and pedestrians. The consequences could be fatal.

Don't know about cycling, but anyone who has Alzheimer's (or any other brain deterioration) has to declare it to DVLC and, sadly for them, their licence is withdrawn. As long as a cyclist has someone to watch over them though, maybe it's not as dangerous as driving, provided they're able to communicate.

yep Mollie he lost his licence but, he can't remember so, his wife keeps the car locked and the keys hid, we also have a tracker on him so, If I do lose him, and I have done a few times, I can use the tracker to find him, I take him out once or maybe twice a week , He's an old pal of mine that I've known from skool ,

Mollie.
If you are cycling on a road diagnosed with Alzheimer's whether or not someone is watching over you, you are a danger to pedestrians and other road users.Off grid would be more suitable where the element of risk of injury to the public is reduced.
Even that is fraught with danger

I can see the Warrington sledge lover is posting and I'm guessing IT is negative so, I'll reiterate what I posted above, His Doctor advised that, as long as his road awareness is ok and, road awareness is mostly, 'muscle memory' so it does not fade like the the spontaneous brain functions, Its good for him to exercise and socialise so, Go claw in your cat litter and shit stir in that,

during our ride today, we're stopped at a set of traffic lights, this yung un was ' jay walking' across the main road with her head in the mobile fone with earplugs in completely unaware of where she was or what might come at her, A walking fone Zombie,, these are what should be educated,,,

Tom, I looked up the information on that and, as your doctor said, it's good for exercise and brain function to cycle.

Damn right mollie and motorists should read the updated highway code with is,,,,,Give way to cyclists and pedestrians , give them 1.5 metres clearance at all times,

Yes, the Highway Code keeps changing, and pedestrians standing to wait to cross the road at the end of a junction now has right of way. That's a fairly recent amendment.

Anyway, where are you off to next on your travels?
