The broken medical system

Started by: PeterP (12417)

It is 3 weeks since Yvonne past away. During the time from discharge from hospital on the 4th June to the present day there is a lack of coordination between ALL of the medical personnel involved with both Yvonne and myself. She was sent home on what they call"end of life" and should have had Gold Standard Palliative care at home .This never happened during the short time she was at home.Earlier in the year I applied for NHS Continuous Healthcare and was turned down but when she came home to die it was fast tracked and was put into place that day.A locum doctor wanted to stop Yvonne's medication and put her on a Syringe Driver which is a controlled syringe full of Morphine ,When the district nurses called they knew nothing about this. The day before she passed away a district nurse phoned the hospice and asked was Yvonne registered for Palliative care and was told she was put on their list on the Friday with an assessment on the Sunday the day she passed away.Less than 6 hours after passing away Wigan council were phoning up to collect her air bed not much empathy thereSince her passing NO medical personnel or social worker or bereavement councillor has made any contact with me(not that I am bothered) to see how I am copping with life after Yvonne. I will pick up the pieces and get on with life and realise that none of the medical personnel dept every talk to each other. If this happens to any one else make sure things are in place before any one comes home and refuse to have them home till this happens

I don't think the problem Peter has experienced lies with the NHS. It belongs to the people employed to do the job who simply can't be arsed!

and maybe it,s the privitisation in the NHS that,s the problem ?.

In what way do you think privatisation affects the efficiency of NHS employees?

"Poor communication between all agencies"

Poor communication between hospitals / trusts / GP's Practices etc.. You wouldn't think it was a "National" health service.

It was mainly communicate between the District nurses/Doctors. You would not think they are in the same building?Whilst Yvonne was home on the "End of Life" care she out side of surgery hours was under the District Nurses(no 111 or 999 calls no ambulances/re-admitting to hospital by me) What happened to the palliative care ,Who should have sorted this out ?The Doctor prescribed some tablets on the Thurs before she passed away and said he would ring on the Mon to ask if they were doing their job. On the Mon morning I received this call about 9-45am and had to stop the doctor because no one had informed him Yvonne had passed away

Peter, these people just don't talk to each other. They don't pass on vital information and seem not to understand the importance of close scrutiny of patients.

Not as bad for me, but last week I got a call from my surgery asking if they could send me a form for a new blood test. She said that my last one was in June last year so I stopped her and told her that, as I'd been in hospital over Christmas, they'd taken enough blood off me to fill Lake Windermere. Their records didn't show that I'd been in hospital, why, or what treatment was given. Your situation was heartbreaking, most especially because your own doctor didn't know Yvonne had died. That is scandalous.

all this is because of the tory run down of the NHS . they just dont care for people in pain or hardship because they want to privitise the whole medical proffession .

Mental health problems including having a obsession about something which is never going to happen under whatever government is in power is also becoming a increasing burden on the NHS as the population rises!

If you use the NHS app you can access your test results on any computer device. Ask at the surgery for log in details. The app has your health records, messages , prescription details etc.
If I go for a morning blood test the results and doctor’s comments are usually available on the app on the next day.
