Mr Google says, "Borstals were abolished in 1982 as most offenders continued to commit crime after they were released".

I think their credibility was shot when even right wing Daily Mail joined in the accusation of them being breeding grounds for violence, bullying and psychopaths.

What have you got against Ukraine?

Surely you are not on Putin's payroll as well!

albion,

Please do not get me wrong. I do think that criminal behaviour of young people requires us to seek some solutions. Solutions which make the problem worse though are definitely to be avoided.

I think that reinstating corporal punishment would be a good starting place and retrain all the teechers how to hit a child at 30 yards with a piece of chalk. No one every got seriously harmed in the days of disciplined skools,

So you want our children to live in fear and at the same encourage society’s authority figures to practice violence Tom?

Not sure where the positives are in that…..,, can you explain please?

Save the rod, spoil the child! If it's good enough for the Bible, it's good enough for me?

I beg to differ.

In my experience, bullies were often quite adept in making sure that it was their victims who would get punished by teachers.

A double whammy. Hurt by bullies and hurt by teachers if they attempted to respond.

Bullies quickly learned how to get teachers to commit acts of violence on their behalf against their victims!

There is a problem.

"If it's good enough for the Bible, it's good enough for me"

By that principle, next time a parent tries to murder their child, rather than section them, we should heil them as our leader who we will follow into instituting a new religion!

At school, it wasn't so much of 'Geddin Wack' as just routine violence metered out by teachers on a day to day basis, and you learned how life works, because some teachers were mean psychopaths, who enjoyed the power they had in school, and they relished inflicting punishments, then there were teachers who were 'soft' they let the kids take the p*ss out of them, but most teachers were somewhere in between, and you learned that teachers had good days and bad days, some days they would be in a good mood, and other days they would be in a foul mood, so you learned about life, and how things worked, so that when you moved into the workplace, you had been {{educated}} in life's ups and downs.

I was routinely beaten up by teachers at school, and it did me no harm at all

Life in skool are the first steps with mummy and daddy not there, Mummy and daddy are loving and Kind ( or most are ) and let the kids get away with a lot, thats why teechers should by more regimental and issue small punishments for bad behaviour . You have to agree things are out of hand now with kids screaming, throwing tantrums and even attacking the teechers more so than in our time at skool when we got caned, bashed and detention ,

TTS

You lived in the real world.

Some on here seem to have been so isolated from it, they appear to relate to a simplistic fantasy world.

Whilst agreeing with the general thrust of your post, I would argue that, nevertheless harm does result.

Villains don't learn to behave better: they learn not to get caught.

And overall, the learning is 'might is right': if you want to get your own way, employ violence.

Yes, should be automatic when phone used within lesson time.

Perhaps learning a an early age that you do not have freedom to use the phone anywhere will result in fewer idiots using a phone whilst driving in later years.
