If someone was to offer me first class flights to london and return.... 5 * accomodation for the duration... cheuffer driven limo to and from daily for the entire wimbledon tennis competition... free meals at any 5 * restaurant... a couple of thousand booze money... theres No Way I would accept it as I cant abide the snobbery attached to this minor sport... and its in London which I detest with a vengeance. what say you ?

I would say, I am not particularly interested in your views on tennis and Wimbledon and please keep your bigoted views to yourself.

Then I would say........Thats gammons for you.....they never stop moaning, even when it has FA to do with `em!!

I'd agree in total BB but there is something clearly wrong with us, They are queueing from Birmingham to buy tickets that don't guarantee they will get on the main court, My Missus will be glued to the box for the full fortneet and eating my home grown strawberries,

its us BB, not the rest of the world,,

Every one to their own has far as tennis goes. A bit like the boat race or the nationalAgain some Tv licence payers will say its a waste of their money with it being shown on both BBC1 and 2 at the same time (different games)

Wimbledon Common is nice though: you hardly ever encounter any Wombles.

I once lived in Putney, which borders the East side of the common, so I would often walk the common.

One Christmas morning, I walked across when it was snow covered, and upon returning, saw only my own footprints. No one else had been there the whole morning.

Ena it is surprising how many things on your doorstep never get used or visited by locals I often wonder how many people who frequent the tennis are locals?

It's nothing like you describe. For starters it's not London. Wimbledon is a very pleasant place although there are some less pleasant areas on it's borders.
One company I worked for had a marquee for the tennis for thirteen consecutive years. It was opposite to the BBC marquee and presented the opportunity to chat to some of the stars of the BBC programmes.
It's definitely not snobbish although to many it will be seen as elitist.
The best part of the experience is watching the world's best tennis players in action.

Gaffer I have lived and worked in London and its outer towns.... everything is geared to rip off the punter... if you like shuttlecocks its your choice... as in football uts over rated and over paid. £40 million prize money and peoole are starving.

Not a tennis fan.

Did not go see when it was on my doorstep (Wimbledon).

Also lived in Didsbury for a few years, Northern Lawn Tennis place only two mins from my doorstep: did not go there either.

As regards London:

Yes, If I visit (did in 80's and 90's, but not in last two decades), find it dirty and crowded, agree with bentlegs' comment, I am not attracted to go live there again.

However, when I did live there, my experience was quite different.

I recall my father visiting, and complaining that everyone in London was a commuter. He seemed blind to the fact that he travelled by car from Ashton to Haydock every day to his place of work, whereas my place of work was but a five minute walk from my doorstep.

Open Green Space: on my doorstep I had Putney Heath, Roehampton Vale, Wimbledon Common and Richmond park. I could walk for days enjoying a wealth of flora and fauna, without ever retracing my footsteps. I often compare that with my life in rural Lincolnshire, where I was surrounded by open countryside, but it was intensively farmed, with no public access. Even taking the dog for a walk meant driving into town to walk in the park, or a trip to the beach.

I could go on, but suffice to say, my quality of life in London was good. But luck was on my side, I have to admit, I know many did not enjoy the same privileges.

Luckily because we have a sky Q box we were able to catch all of the episode on catch up ,but my argument is that not every one has a skyQ box do they ?Like someone on here i too object to bbc showing same thing on both channels crazy or what ? I think it's called "hospitality".
Not to be confused with "getting hissed under the stand" at Central Park, back in the day.
And there lies the snobbery.

desperation and loneliness drives them to be included in normal everyday conversation with popular posters, have you noticed when one 'bannerman' replies , the other bannermen are right behind, with , whatever it is they are grumbling about,
I think Admin should evaluate the members in the ignore cell block , give them a fair trail then Ban them,
if many members are ignoring them, there has to be a reason,
C'mon admin,,, do your stuff

I met him a couple of weeks ago putting petrol in his hybrid Merc at Sainsburys , He winked and whispered " keep you head down tom, I'm making a withdrawal " then he pulled down his mask , whipped out the , sawn off ,up and over shot gun, bust into the pay point, grabbed a wad of cash then, did some impressive wheel spins and doughnutted an exit into the Warrington road , He accidently on purpose dropped a few twenties on the floor and, me being a good citizen , picked up the ' litter'

i played tennis when i was younger it is a great game, keeps you fit and strong.a really good workout.
what i find goading is the lta /wimbledon saying,we have spent millions to spread the game.
does wmbc have any tennis courts young people can try having a go at the game, where is the money being spent.
if the courts are in place ,the promotion of the game is extremely poor.
