There's a small old fashioned hardware shop on Market Street in Hindley, the kind that will sell you 4 nails if that's all you need. You could try there.

Still have a hose and cart rag and bone man where I live.
These days though, they only want scrap metal or re-sellable articles. (and, they are even picky about what metals they will take.)
And nowt offered in exchange now.

I remember Bill Tracey picking my Grandad up one Sunday morning in a pony and trap.There was another rag and bone man called Brock who one day gave out goldfish instead of a donkey stone and had kids queuing up with rags.That was a coincidence Sonlyme
