‘Great Discredit to Wigan’

Started by: jo anne (34722)

Crossbench peer Lord Alton of Liverpool, as quoted in the Catholic Herald, 3rd Nov 2021 - Link:

“Last week the Foreign Secretary was reported as saying that what is happening to the Uyghurs at the hands of the Chinese Communist Party is a genocide.

“This week, Wigan Council has signed a £135 million deal with a Chinese company.

“For questioning the probity of this, a librarian has lost her job and has now been prevented from making a protest. Maureen O’Bern has shown great courage.”

Lord Alton added: “I cannot understand why a local council can be so indifferent to the Uyghur genocide, to the destruction of Hong Kong’s democracy, to daily CCP threats to Taiwan and mass violations of human rights.

“This money-talks deal will bring great discredit to Wigan just as its attempt to suppress free speech has done.”

Joanne you are 'preaching to the converted' Anyone with any modicum of intelligence knows the track record of this council. The problem is when this redevelopment is finished these COUNCILLORS!!!! will be long gone...with greasy palms. I can't see them traveling from Atherton and Leigh on a push bike as one Councillor said in the meeting "Most people will be traveling to work by Public Transport or by bike"..

Is it true the man in charge of all negotiations in the planning of our town is a Yorkshireman?.

TONKER :""":YOU ASK WHAT DO YOU EXPECT COUNCILLORS TO DO ABOUT IT"""??
Well Tonker the very first simplistic thing is to
"ASK TH EPEOPLE OF WIGAN "" Then after a FAIR ballot take whatever action as necessary ..
Secondly ;;Start a study into what could be done to the existing MARKET HALL COMPLEX...
THIRDLY ;; ALL THE CLOWN COUNCILLORS RESIGN !!
