Hair cuts

Does anyone else cut their own hair, I do with my trusty Wahl clippers and a little help from my Mrs to straighten the back. Done and dusted now though, I do like to look my best with my highly polished shoes and slick suits. There's nothing wrong in maintaining ones personal appearance and cleanliness, and when you look as good as do it's a necessity. No need to pay overpriced Barbers for a good crop. DIY is the way to go

And those Wahl cutters are the best Terry, I Too am a diy hair trimmer, Number one then take the comb off flip it over to shave the neck, easy peasy and must have saved Farsands over the years, My last viit to a barbers was when they did, Lad n Dad £6, must be at least 20 years ago.

A bit drastic that GB, they do seem to be very popular with the youngsters though, just not for me at that price.

Have always done my hubbys hair ,beard & moustache ( love a nice moustache) and when my girls were growing up I cut their hair as well,but mine is a Remington for men & been brilliant.Also at the age of 12 I started perming ,cutting & styling my Mums hair until she passed away aged 80 & she never went to a Salon

NJ..I too always cut my hubbys hair and. moustache,plus the three children growing up with Wahl clippers and Sanguine scissors.
My Mam always went to the hairdressers every week but when I looked after her in her last couple of years of course I permed colored and styled her hair...so nearly snap LOL.

iv,e got those wahl cutters & had them yonks but got some new 1s & they are the best cutters iv,e ever had & i paid over the odds but they are well worth it & rechargable at that .

Had a few types of clippers over the years but always gone back to Wahl, I like the crispness of the close cut and the others don't seem to come up to that standard.

Early seventies I used to use Kingston's on King Street, long hair in those days that needed special attention.

I think Kingston's moved down the Bank Chambers later on.

as an apprentice in the 70s,was sent to do a job at the barbers near Kays on Darlington St, was met with the smell of singed hair as the owd boys were having their neck hair "tapered"..never forgot that smell

Terry, Didn't Kingston's end up in the market hall, then moved to the Galleries, re named the shop to Snips. There were two barbers, one called Barry, can't remember the other.

Tuddy, not sure where they went after and yes there were two of them, Barry Jackson and Ian Sharrock. I'm not even sure it was the Bank Chambers they moved to after King Street when I come to think about it. You are right about Snips though then they retired I think, I was told Ian had injured his back badly.
