What is it like for fish stocks above the weir?
Replied: 23rd Nov 2021 at 19:41
I don’t know about the fish stocks’ situation, Ena.
Sonlyme, I think the weir removals are to improve the river habitat so trout can be re-introduced.
@Your_Douglas (Mar ‘21):
It will be wonderful to see trout and salmon back in the River Douglas one day.
We’re determined to make this happen and are working towards becoming an accredited Chapter of Trout In The Town.

Why would they remove a floodgate from a river that floods?
Replied: 23rd Nov 2021 at 21:13
I don’t know what the plan is, AngelWood.
“Many of the water bodies are considered “heavily modified” in part because of the presence of multiple weir structures along its course …
The project will deliver fish passes at 8 sites :
1. Gathurst weir
2. Pottery Terrace weir
3. Scholes weir
4. Red Rock weir
5. Worthington weir
6. Downstream Pincroft weir
7. Upstream Pincroft weir
8. Grimeford weir
