Poolstock Lane traffic

Started by: mortarmillbill (929)

At last this morning something has been done about the speeding cars on Poolstock Lane.
The roadworks traffic lights near St James Church meant that vehicles heading into Wigan were at a standstill and I could cross easily.
Maybe tomorrow some of them will use the new road.

I would like to see something more permanent like narrowing in places to only one car can get through, these, traffic calming devices have little or no effect,
motamerbill, have you seen the alterations near Bargain booze, the road is hardly any different but took 5 weeks to complete,

Tom

I agree, 5 weeks for next to nothing, but yoo might like what they are dooing at Poolstock/Pool Street at the aforementioned St James & St Tommy location.

I am saying that yoo might like it Tom, but they are taking away the roundabout, and I know yoo don't like the council taking away roundabouts

So get your head around this, and that is that Poolstock will be rooted into Pool Street, so yoo are driving along Poolstock, and then next thing you are driving down Pool Street, and you carry on and then you are travelling down Southgate away from Wigan

Yes Tommy Tee, I do like that idea, They will also need to block off corporation Street to stop the rat runners otherwise, its another 7 weeks work for nowt,

I cant understand what use the 'new road' is? It should have been located from the end of the M6 junction 25 to where it joins Chapel lane Anyone coming from the junction 25 has to drive through the roundabout at Marus Bridge continue for 1/2 mile and then come back on yourself??? It doesn't make sense to me.

I can think of a few reasons why that idea wasn't adopted, but in the late 1980s early 90s the route 225 proposals, which nearly got that road built, there were five route proposals to extend the M6 from Orrell to Westhoughton, they were the Pink, Black, Green, Blue and Yellow routes, and the Pink route proposal did go from the end of the slip road, at the Top Island Marus Bridge, Junction 25.

''road markings changed to make Poolstock feel more residential and discourage through traffic''.... good luck with that, you are still going to get the idiots flying up there, no roundabout, but they just need to turn right into Poolstock, why dont they just block it off or make it one way at the end where it joins Chapel Lane, although that would spoil my fun of driving down it at 19 mph and getting on everyones nerves

Part of the roadside shrubbery has been removed to make way for the new cycle path on to the canal Towpath next to Poolstock top lock.

I'm glad about that Mortie, Its a pain going up that path of thorns to get on the canal or getting off there,,, I've been out looking at the new cycle lane progress throu to Wigan via Wallgate and its a mess at the minute but, when its done it will be great for cyclists and walkers,
