GB I think the money is coming from the government not out of our coffers so let there be mayhem around Wigan We just have to try to avoid it by going elsewhere,Like St Helens Warrington Widnes or order online

I can explain that GB, the council get a budget to spend on roads, if they underspend , then next year they get less, Its as simple as that, Its the same on , housing and hospitals,

It matters not where the funds are coming from. This is PUBIC money and we are dealing with the biggest crisis that has faced the world since WW2 and we spend money on schemes that could quite well be delayed until our economic problems are solved. My opinion of politicians never alters.

Because they are told to by central government GB. In actual fact central government tell Wigan council EXACTLY what to do in all respects. Why you may say? Its for the simple reason the government run the country, not the local councils. If Boris says here is £1M of taxpayers to spend on encouraging the public to use pushbikes with the aim of reducing the number of car journeys and improving ones health they can’t exactly refuse.

Appreciate it might not suit your agenda but hey-ho it’s not the first time and won’t be the last!

It started as an EU project whereby construction of roads or new junctions had to incorporate cycle lanes. The eventual aim was to bring the depth of cycling up to the Belgian and Dutch levels. Where the plan erred was not to accept the Belgian and Dutch cycle lanes standard of vehicular separation worked and should be integral to any new scheme anywhere. Having cycled in Bruges and Amsterdam when on holiday I can honestly say it was a pleasure.

If Wigan Council council don't spend it I am sure other local councils will take the money off us.

Went to Leeds a couple of weeks ago and I must say around the centre are thousands of cones. Signs say it is to help improve cycling in the city? It is much worse than Wigan.

WE had a cycle lane installed running through the city centre but it has now been removed . I think the uni students were incapable of working it out and still whizzed in and out of shoppers. Also have one going straight up through our estate but never see any bikes on it
