Hgv double wheels

Over the week end there was a tragic accident were a medic was killed by a large stone flicked up from the back of a lorry. Above once I have seen stone or brick ejected at speed from between the double back wheels of HGV's/Lorries luckely the stone was throw to the grass verge I think most motorist have seen stone/brick in the road and wondered were it had come from. Either this type of wheel configeration should be scrapped or the existing units double checked before they leave sites for objects wedged between the wheels.

PeterP... Know where you are coming from... Seen it many times before beating a retreat from said vehicle. Every now and again we used to have a purge on construction sites and check HGV wheels for trapped boulders etc... Not to prosecute the driver more of to highlight the bullet that can be spit out and cause injury/damage. And in the case you mention a fatality. But it's the same as anything else... Can you see drivers complying or employing someone to check vehicle safety when leaving sites? Don't think so.

Having driven tipper trucks I can tell you if your not totally brain dead or deaf , you can feel and hear the 'Thump thump thump in the cab. I have stopped many a time to remove said half brick or whatever from between the tyres and there is only one way to get them out and that is to smash them to pieces with a hammer or summat . Once they get wedged in it's impossible to just pull them out so some drivers just wait until it gets flung out to god knows where, lazy gits.

Peter, a few years ago, I pulled out of Haydock Island petrol station, turning left up the motorway sliproad northbound. I was in a Porsche 911 and I gave it extra rice as I accelerated up the sliproad.
Half way up, I overtook a lorry tractor unit (no trailer) and, as I overtook it, a bolt flew off the truck and hit my windscreen on the passenger side. That resulted in a small hole, but with long cracks around it like a bullet hole. I had to have a new screen fitted.
You know the passenger who was in the car with me at the time. You worked with him at Golborne.
It was J.W. and he nearly embarrassed himself, out of shock, when it happened !

I was driving down the M6 a few years ago, heading south, Just before the Ticked Trout turn off. I was in the middle lane when I saw this "THING" come bouncing towards me I saw it dissapear under my car and heard a bang When I stopped I saw that a large bolt with a rubber coating had lodged in my grill. God only knows what would have happened if it had bounced 12 inches higher
