MASKS

Started by: GOLDEN BEAR (6556)

All i have to say about mask wearing is at the first lock down not everybody were wearing masks and the virus abated a bit. NOW during this second lockdown whenever i am out and about everyone seems to be wearing the mask , YET the figure 's and death's are soaring so my question is just what's going on?????
It has me baffled !!!!!

It all depends on how effective your Mask is!

If everyone wears a mask, then that helps, but if the virus is airborne, then only a N85 standard mask will filter the virus out of the air, and such an N95 mask, needs to be fitted to your face, there are different sizes and shapes of N95 masks, to fit different sizes and shape of peoples faces, but as the second wave as proved, face coverings and none N95 masks do not prevent the spread of the virus, they can only help slow it down.

And just remember that if this lockdown ends on the 2nd December, then we are straight into Christmas shopping time, with packed stores etc, which is when the floo season starts , so yoo can expect a lot of poorly sick people in the New Year.

There are quite a few factors, Golden Bear, but generally in the first lockdown people kept themselves to themselves a lot more.

Angel Wood,
I thought the first reports said that the virus didn't like warmer weather. I think it is the same family as flu and that seems to thrive in colder climes.

Me and Mrs RMJ have between us just under 400 masks bought in bulk, they work out at 50p each.

We shop once a week at Horwich Tesco fully masked, and that’s our only contact with the outside world.
We stay in all morning, have an afternoon walk, get home and pull up the drawbridge.
I am 73 with a heart condition, I wouldn’t survive Corvid.
Stay safe everyone.

I wear a bandana and wash it every few days. As I have hearing aids I find a mask tends to pluck them out and at £2500 a pair too expensive to replace. Everything I read about COVID is contradictory. He says this and she says that. Have a lockdown, Don’t have a lockdown. If these “ eminent professionals “ can’t agree what should be done what chance do us plebs have?

Just for the record Peter Israel are you a scientist / biochemist or something similar ... NO! I AM NOT Here in Israel we are just a head of you with this virus!! and because we are a small county with great heath care.. we see results of what is happening very fast...... we are now coming out of second lockdown bars/ entertainment and indoor shopping centers are still closed !!! did it work?? we went from 10000 getting sick in one day and now its back to 500 a day . We were wearing masks over here when you were still fighting with each other and making them out of kitchen paper so no i am not a scientist / biochemist i can just tell you what is going on here and you can use that if you like ....... i can just tell you we have not opened the school/yeshivot because it was found that the men who studied in the yeshivot when they traveled home at weekend the virus hit the roof
>>And because of how the religious Jews and Arabs live in Extended family's we saw what was going to happen in Bolton, Bury etc
We had the APP on the phone months ago and it does not working because people leave their phone at home or they don't want to grass on someone they know who is sick and out

Just remember not everyone has the virus i think its 1 in 400 in wigan so the odds of you getting it is very rare so if you keep you space even when talking to some one ... I stand back if someone comes to close to me even if they are speaking to me .... and clean you hands before you touch your face or before you take your mask off you will be ok..... but I am not a VIROLOGIST

just remember

Replied: 9th Nov 2020 at 10:22

The death figures are NOT rising, it's because people are stupidly going along getting tested (or even in some situations they are simply sending swab samples in which they've never done anything with with name and address on), which allows them to manipulate the figures so it justifies more lockdowns, more shutting down of small businesses (whilst the big chains, supermarkets, fast food joints etc are still able to open) and communist type restrictions . And masks do not stop any virus from spreading, If anyone cares to remember back in April government officials such as Matt Hancock and Chris Witty appeared on the news openly stating that masks do not stop the spread.

4th March: Chris Witty said, quote: "In terms of wearing a mask, our advice is clear, wearing a mask dosent reduce any risk".

24th April: Matt Hancock said, quote "With the evidence of wearing face masks outdoors amongst the general public is extremely weak".

28th April. "The recommendation from SAGE is completely clear, which is there's weak evidence of a small effect in which a face mask can prevent a source of infection going from somebody who is infected to the people around them".

Vallance stated that on the 3rd April that "in terms of the hard evidence and what the UK government recommends, we do not recommend face masks for general wearing by the public".

Downing St Coronavirus News Briefing: 11 May

Witty: There clearly is a very serious epidemic, but equally the fact that to the great majority of people will not die from this. Now I'll just repeat what I said right at the beginning, cos I think it's worth reinforcing. Most people, er well, a significant portion of people will not get this virus at all at any at all. Of those who do, some will get the virus without even knowing it...they'll have the virus with no symptoms at all.

The death figures always rise at this time of the year, covid19 or no covid19.

Gaffer, it is impossible to put a figure on how many people have been infected under any particular local government. Don't you believe it !

Reason for my comment?

Well, I know and mix amongst hundreds of people, from all walks of life. Out of those people, I only know of one who has had covid19. That person is also the only one I know who has been tested for it.
That person didn't know she had it, until she was tested and, after her test showed 'positive' she still denied having it because she had no symptoms and felt fine.

Do you all know thousands of people, all living in the same council area, all having been tested for covid19 and all returning a positive result?

Idon't think that many people have been tested, never mind beentested positive and admitted to hospital withit.

Nurses at three hospitals have told me, although they have had covid19 patients in, they aren't even busy, let alone 'over-run'. And the reason why they aren't busy is that the normal run of clinical patients admissions have been put back!

Of course, you won't believe a word I say. So why do you believe something you have no idea about?
Consultants in respiratory diseases are saying exactly the same as I am, and you'd rather believe politicians and media rumour?

How many of YOU have had it? (that's KNOW you've had it, by returning positive test results and, therefore, becoming a 'recorded covid19 case')

here's the evidence:

I know and speak to lots of people. ... and only ONE person who's had covid19 (positive test. no symptoms. felt ok. two weeks later back at work) (officially recorded covid19 case)
there's many types of diseases caused by one virus.
how many people have died of covid19?
how many have died of other sars cov2 related diseases?
how many prople have died of something they would have died of if they hadn't got covid19?
over in Spain (the area I go to) nobody knows anybody who's died of it, or had it.
I know several people who've died of cancer.
I know a couple of people who've died of sepsis.
I know a couple who've died of aneurysm.
one who died of angina.

Tonks the subject here is covid ..we all know someone who's died with cancer, aneurysm, angina my own dad included,we're talking solely of the covid, try telling the families who lost their loved ones that there's no such thing as the covid,I'm sure they'd jump down your throat..I get the impression that you're talking through your hat,I'm sorry but why is ..to name one individual Kate Garraways hubby still in Hospital and has been in a coma since March is it..or are you trying to say that it's pneumonia, sepsis,or some other illness..sorry Tonks..try having the covid as I have and you'll find out just how real it is..headaches which I never suffer from..pains shooting all over your body, throwing up,light headedness which I still have..runny nose, you name it,hacking cough ,I've had the flu in the past,it certainly isn't that..I honestly hope that you never get it,but I'll tell you something, you'd soon find out that it's certainly real..believe me,as I said before I've had pneumonia years ago,had the flu and believe me this covid can knock you sideways,I've been out today, the first time since I started with it,and it's like walking in a dream..how can any nursing staff say there is no such thing when nursing staff have been dropping like flies and dying with it..I think we'll agree to disagree tonks.

Well, nobody is actually denying the existince of this virus. Of course it's real. That's what's got a lot of people confused. Of course it exists, but masks will not keep it away as it's airborne. So, if you put your mask on when you go to a public place, then take it off, it's still in the atmosphere, in your cars, in your homes and gardens. Think of an aerosol you use in your homes. It disperses droplets into the air which you can't see or feel. That's what a virus is. It's not confined to anywhere, but it's everywhere, inside and outside.

Covid-19 is so named because its existence was discovered in 2019 so, for a minimum of four months till the end of March, we were unaware of it and we went about our normal business until it was announced, and that's when the paranoia began, but it could have been discovered more than a year ago for all we know and was kept quiet until it got out of hand.

As Tommy said earlier, the Plague of 1918 (Spanish Flu) was the greatest pandemic of the 20th century which literally killed millions (500+ million to be exact), but viruses don't just disappear. There have been billions of viruses in our atmosphere throughout the centuries, most of which mankind has become immune to, but some not. They're still around but, because we've lived with them as we've developed over thousands of years, our immune systems have learned how to fight them off. Even the Bubonic Plague of the 14th Century can still be found in parts of Asia, Africa, Peru and the USA but because of medical advancement and antibiotics, it's no longer the killer it once was, so viruses never die off completely. They remain, but for the majority we can adapt until something new comes along, or is developed.

More people have survived this virus than have died but, if someone has an underlying upper respiratory illness, heart disease, kidney disease, cancer, etc when their immunity is lower than those who are normally well, then their chances of survival is lower than those who don't, but it doesn't necessarily mean it will kill them. There are people here on this board who've had it, but they're still here to tell the tale - thank goodness. Covid-19 cannot be equated to the "ordinary flu" (whatever that is), as this is more virulent for those who can't more easily fight against it. I've never had a flu jab in my life (I'm 70 now) and I never will. I told the receptionist at my surgery that there are enough viruses knocking around as it is, so why would I want to be pumped with a vaccine which includes a flu virus. From which flu would I be getting protection? Spanish, Russian, Asian?

Unfortunately, this "killer disease" has been blown out of all proportion but yes, people should be aware of it and take whatever precautions they think fit and, if they do have underlying illnesses, then steer clear of others. Originally, we were told that the main targets of Covid-19 were people over 70 and supposedly more vulnerable, but children have had it, teenagers, and people not so old, so it's a lottery, but the goal posts keep changing, making things even more confusing than ever.

Somebody mentioned something about not being selfish and to shop online, but it's not that simple for some. I for one don't have a mobile phone so no apps, and I've never shopped online in my life, and never will. I've been furloughed from work for the past eight months and believe me, if I didn't nip to the shop in the evening when it's quiet and have a little chat and a laugh with the staff, I would have had a hard time coping.

Unfortunately, the end result of this will be some folk, having been brainwashed, will never again know what it is to hug a loved one; no kissing granny or grand children; no more family get-togethers; no hand shakes to seal deals; no football/rugby stadiums and thousands of places which will be closed down for good; no more allowing your own children into your homes; in other words, no more enjoying yourselves and why? Because they will have been stripped of their humanity and become robots, which will end their normal lives that they've all been accustomed to, all because some idiots in Government became paranoid and refused to listen to the virologists and epidemiologists; scientists who have specialised in viral infections from Ebola, to Sars, to Avian Flu, ad infinitum. Why were we not locked down during those epidemics? Even measles and chicken pox are viruses which are curable in children, but highly dangerous, indeed life-threatening in adults, and those are still around. Just think of what else will cease to exist unless the Government allows the scientists to have a voice, but who have up to now been gagged.

Mankind has developed into interacting pack animals and our social and family lives are dependent on our very existence as humans. We are not singularities and we were never designed to be distanced from our own kind, any more than all the other animals on this earth, but we're now being taught to change our behavioural patterns towards others. Would you help a child, or old person, who falls on the street or gets knocked down by a car and is injured? Or, would you walk away from them out of fear of touching them? I know what I'd do. To be starved of human contact can cause deep depression and anxiety in a lot of people.

Black Friday is just around the corner, and people will be flocking for their bargains; then Christmas after that. Or will these annual events cease to exist because of the scaremongering of fools?

Sorry about the length of this post, and I don't expect anyone to agree or disagree, but if bats biting chickens in China is what caused this, which is what we were originally told, I'll bite off my own feet! It's the most ludicrous excuse I've ever heard in my life and, if it were true, then this virus would have emerged hundreds of years before now because the Chinese eat those bats regularly, so an outbreak would have happened long before now. This virus was manufactured.

Please don't call each other names though folks. There's no need for that, but sometimes frustration can get the better of us. This is not a time for recriminations. It's a time for us to make a stand, use logic and our own common sense, and try to live our lives as normally as we can without fear.

Well, that's my take on the situation, but stay safe everyone, and don't believe in everything you're told or what you read. I've said my piece, so I'll say no more.

I agree with every word you have said momac. And he is a rude, insufferable pedant. My last words too.

I have been getting my masks from Cambridge Mask company travel to Manchester everyday to work I found most masks not even worth wearing
paid more but for these two but the specs as shown are worth it and miles better quality.
Cambridge Masks™ are respirators (PPE) with UK military grade filtration technology. The masks filter out dust and pollution particles such as PM10, PM2.5 and PM0.3 as well as bacteria and viruses using a unique triple layer filtration system. The first layer catches larger pollution particles such as dust and PM10, followed by the Three-Ply Micro Particulate Filter which stops nearly 100% of smaller particulate matter such as PM2.5 and PM0.3. The final layer has been developed by the UK’s Ministry of Defence and filters out viruses, bacteria and gas pollution such as Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs), Ozone, Benzathine and Formaldehyde. We call this The British Pollution Solution.

Not seen you use that disparaging remark before Tonker. Must remember it for future use.

A friend of mine suffered for years with Crohn's disease.
First she had a colostomy, but she eventually had an ileostomy, which meant she didn't have an arsehole.
She got sepsis and died.

It follows that I'm offended by that comment!

( only joking) (as usual!)

I noticed a few week ago the staff of WH Smiths are now wearing masks. They must of been told they are no longer allowed to wear those face shields.
