Did anyone hear about some of the bigger unions in the UK hooking up with similar in USA and Germany?

What a brilliant idea to combat the effects of international companies moving their businesses around the globe to find the cheapest labour etc.

Here in Aus they have just introduced "Individual Workplace AGreements" where you negotiate your terms of employment with the boss on your own. Just imagine, a young, naive 17 yo, desperate to keep his job arguing the toss about his Sat/Sun overtime rates with the boss? I think I have got an idea who will be in the driving seat. "It's my way or the highway" springs to mind?

I have had some problems with my sky television system and when I phone them I get Sky India, why do Sky have this system? simple, its dirt cheap for them, and also it takes ages once you are connected to speak to someone and it costs a fortune.I made two calls recentley one was 26 minutes the other was 29 minutes. So if your considering Sky watch out for the phone bills

getwom If there's nowt wrong with company's doing that then there's nowt wrong with unions doing it. Agreed?

Will this never ending saga go away?

"Unethical" ?? that depends on the definition.

Let me give you an example, again here in Australia a huge company, James Hardie, that has been in business here and overseas, for at least 40 years was involved in a major way with the use of building products made with asbestos.

As most people will know many people are suffering from a very painful, lingering, ill health, leading to death due to asbestosis. This product was used in many ways, building houses, pipes etc. It knew for a long time of the effects and tried to cover it up or brush over it.

The company involved has been fighting case after case to avoid paying compensation. Now that same company has moved out of Australia and is based in The Netherlands.

Yes, it has set up a kind of trust to compensate the victims, but is looking to the Australian Taxation Dept. to give it a tax break for said trust. Is that 'good business practice' to shift your HQ overseas to stay in business and compete or 'unethical' to try and escape your moral obligations??

What do you think your chances would be of chasing a company for compensation that has moved overseas? It is mainly because of the doggedness of the unions that got them to admit liability.

I was simply passing a comment on cheap labour,I do not sit at a pc for hours looking at different sites, I have much better things to do than sit on my A*** all day looking at a screen.

The union's have had their day, I have been in the Haulage industry almost 20 years and never been a member of any trade union, they are like the goverment, they are in it to feather their own nests not ours

Most unions feather the LABOUR party's nest!!!!! And Industrialist feather the TORY party's nest!!!!!.At the end of the day its the workers of this country who feather both nest's.

for people who are on P A Y E . if it wasnt for the unions they would be earning a lot less money.

They didn't do the coal industry any good did they, now we buy coal from Africa no union there either
