Tower Buldings.

You can't bring the old traditional place back.

And certainly not with those modern pies.

Weak tay and crap pies.

Not like the Silver Service customers got in days long gone.

Lasting memory of that place, besides the great pies and marble tables, is an earthware jar holding a bog brush in the gents (upstairs).

Edit.

Not Earthware

Stoneware

Wasn't this the old shop (photo on the right):

Pooles' Cafe (a photo on WW Album, taken about 20 years ago)

I think the tourist info centre was moving to the Life Centre, Kellysdad.

the original recipe for pies is needed before it opens. pooles pies are not the pooles pies the old wiganers know

I hope they do something with the fronts of those buildings in that part of Wallgate.

I worked there until it's closure. I very much doubt they will recreate the atmosphere but I wish them well.

Going to Pooles for dinner on Saturday, steak pie, mushy peas, barm cake and a custard slice. Bootiful.

they'll need to give it a good clean-up
and jathbee's right - it wont be anything like the original.

I used to enjoy Winstanley's in Hindley in the early seventies. Their pies, peys and gravy were groovy. They used to do catering too if I remember right.

Will there be two versions of Pooles pies if Pooles opens up again? If you get my drift. Will they be selling the same Pooles pies which are available in Asda, jjb stadium etc or will they be different pies? I'm confused

So do I, I-spy. You need a jackhammer to get through the crust on the present pooles pies. I must admit though, I think the innards of the pie is pretty good.

Its just a marketing ploy by the new partners in the business. It wont even be run by pooles they will just supply the pies

Ey up Granada Two Times you ok old chum?

When Whelan took over Poole's pies the first think he did was to sack the old suppliers , in particular the fat supplier, this changed the pies forever. Poole's pies would never be the same again.

Whelan's projects always end in tears but leave him in clover.

There was a Poole's in Standishgate, opposite Marks and Spencer, wasn't there. It had an upstairs room, like the Wallgate branch.

Or am I dreaming?

Great link Mac(Tower Buildings). What a shame they are in a bad way, why can't the upper floors be turned into accommodation seeing as we are said to be short of it. We would not need to build new houses. Sorry to stray from the thread.

The secret of Pooles' pies was that they used hot water pastry, and I have that recipe.

Idiot Whelan wouldn't have a clue, so Pooles' pies will never be the same again. You had to drink the meat pies before you could eat them.
