14,983 steps

Thats what my fone says I've done today , I'm wondering how it works that out ?
I'm guessing it uses GPS to track my journey and uses a persons average stride to calculate the steps, This is not a regular amount, of steps for me , I got bored and set off on a walk around Wigan flashes and Westwood which, I enjoyed, peace and quiet and I saw only 3 other humans in the off road section, Its not for everyone and, I had a good day
Warrabout you ?

I've been bored out of me skull for the last few days. The Supervisor I do most of my typing for is off on his jollies this week, so I've only had bits and pieces. The rest of the time I've peeked in on here, and been reading stuff on that Microsoft Cloud or wor'ever it's called.
I hate having nothing to do at work as it make me feel like I'm stealing a living. Mindst, when he comes back, it'll be all systems go, full steam ahead, piles of test and inspection reports to type out observations and recommendations for, then back to him for pricing up, then back to me, plus letters to let folk know if their premises are Satisfactory or Unsatisfactory. So, I suppose I should be grateful for an easy week.

That's true Tom, but I've never enjoyed idleness as it's not in my bones. I'll be okay again on Tuesday. He'll be back by then.

That's true of our generation Mollie, we are the baby Boomers generation and a dying breed, We walked to skool, ate what was on our plate and respected our elders and all was well in the World until, MacDonalds came over,

Ah yes. It's all MacDonald's fault. Fat kids now which affects brain growth hence ADHD, laziness, and many other causes.
Funnily enough, (and I know this is going off topic a bit for which I apologise), but this afternoon I was remembering what it was like before computers, mobile phones and other electronic devices. Were we better off without them, as they seem to be affecting our way of life now?
What thinkest thou?

You're absolutely right there Mollie, You only have to look at a skool bus and EVERY child on the bus has his/her head in the fone, Even kids in prams are given a fone to keep them quiet whilst mum is tickle tackling on her own fone,
They use them to order food from the Soopermarket , to get their dinner at MacDonalds without queueing at the counter, They go on Tonkerpedia to find the quickest way to get the cheapest flights to Spain, Those Fat kids of the 80's are now the fat Mums of the 2020's and painted in blue tattoos

Those who keep looking at their phone don't realised that it is now regarded as a medical issue by the medical pofession.

“it is now regarded as a medical issue by the medical profession.”
It follows that there’ll be a benefit entitlement linked to it!

Like Momac, I regularly have to avoid bumping into people who have their phones in front of them, instead of to their ear, not to mention hitting them whilst driving and they step right out in front of me. They're totally oblivious to the world around them, and encased in a world of their own named The Phone.
Surfer mentioned all those ways where you have to use a phone but, what if you're like me and don't possess one of those infernal things?
In a way, it is a form of a medical condition. It's called Stupidity, or possibly a sort of OCD. I read somewhere once that people check their phones every few minutes or, anything up to 55 - 100 times a day. Now, if that's not an obsessive compulsive disorder, I don't know what is. Why people put vital personal information on their phones is truly idiotic.
Okay, I'm a Luddite, a dinosaur, old-fashioned, whatever I am, but I go about my life unencumbered by a lump of plastic with numbers on it.

Those who are spending their time looking at a mobile phone need to get a life!
And those paying for drinks by a card are just tight sods who do not want to say to the staff, keep the change or have one yourself like when older people did before the card came on the scene!

Thing is Owd Lad, very young kids have phones these days, some from around 5 years old. I don't know if this is still true, but a number of years ago it was discovered (?) that mobile phones emitted a small amount of radiation when in use. Imagine what that would/could do to the brain using it for prolonged conversations. By the age 25/30 their brains could be fried by being irradiated.
When I did have a mobile many years ago, Tuesday night would be my chat night with a friend much older than me. Incredibly, we could chat for a couple of hours so we did one hour from her phone, then the next from mine. By the time we finished our conversations, the left side of my head felt hot.

That makes sense to me Mollie, You're a hot chick and that convected to the fone, nowt to do with radiation or microwaves,
Replied: 29th Aug 2025 at 21:55

Not sure what convected means, Tom. I thought that was fluid transfer to the body or summat.
Replied: 29th Aug 2025 at 22:02

Ah Molly because you are educated in reedin and rightin yoo will know there is no such a word as convected,
a convector transfers heat from a heat source to the air, Like an house hold radiator, The heat from the top of the radiator causes convection which, raises the heat into the room and it circulates up and around the room whereas, The front of the radiator gives off heat to the front,
At Plum towers we've had loads of arguments because , Women ( Mrs Plum) does not understand that, drying clothes on a radiator completely destroys the efficiency of the radiator,
Replied: 29th Aug 2025 at 23:19

The reason I asked about convected, Tom, I didn't know what it meant so I asked Mrs Google and she said this:
"Convective" describes the process of heat transfer through the movement of fluids (liquids or gases), where warmer, less dense fluid rises and cooler, denser fluid sinks, creating a circulating current.
I only dried clothes on my radiators once, and that was when I still had a central heating system that worked, and my tumble dryer had packed in, so I'd no other choice.
